I don't know if there is a web friendly output option Marco. That movie happens to have a loch model I made, and I appear in the thumbnail and stuck in a squeeze. Small claim to fame. Is there a way to export Loch output on the Web without making a movie but using some 3D player ? Re: [Therion] Plotting scraps and the centreline together

JennyI have always done what you are trying to do, and the solution is as Martin says, create maps from surveys and maps from scraps and then combine them.It is a bit tedious, but the default Therion behaviour you describe is to hide centreline for surveys that have no scraps (unless there are no scraps at all).. This is the only work around I have found, so if there is a better way let us know!Bruce Sent from my Samsung device -------- Original message -------- From: Martin Sluka <martinsluka(a)mac.com> Date: 19/10/2015 22:22 (GMT+12:00) To: List for Therion users <therion(a)speleo.sk> Subject: Re: [Therion] Plotting scraps and the centreline together Jenny, It looks the problem is you want to mix maps defined from scraps and maps defined from surveys. Try to draw „blind“ scraps only with stations and generate map from scraps. As I may say, I newer tried to define map as this: map from_surveys_only.map survey1 survey 2 endmap map from_scraps.map scrap1 scrap2 endmap map all.map map_from_surveys_only map_from_scraps endmap thconfig: select all.map m.s. > 19. 10. 2015 v 6:23, Jenny Black <jenelopy(a)gmail.com>: > > Hi, > > I want to plot both the centreline for the entire cave and passages in > the scraps I have drawn. Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV
by Bruce 19 Oct '15

19 Oct '15

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

Do people use Toughbooks for mapping
by rowena 19 Oct '15

Hi, Does anyone use a Panasonic toughbook for caving? Do you get the DistoX data direct uploaded to Therion on a toughbook? If so how well do they go underground and what other mapping tools do you use with it? Rowena

Plotting scraps and the centreline together
by Jenny Black 19 Oct '15

19 Oct '15

Hi, I want to plot both the centreline for the entire cave and passages in the scraps I have drawn. I can do one at a time but can't figure out how to plot both. In my thconfig file I have: symbol-show point station symbol-show group cave-centreline symbol-show point station-name debug station-names so when I don't have any scraps, I get the centreline and stations nicely plotted for the entire cave, which is proving very helpful with figuring out where to break loops for my extended elevation. However, as soon as I add in my scraps, which I've been doing by adding: input 107ee_ropeless.th2 input 107ee_china_new.th2 input 107ee_oldroute.th2 to my .th file I can only see the centreline (and walls, etc) for the scraps of drawn and not the rest of the cave. I'm sure it is possible to plot the scraps *and* the entire centreline. I'm sure I read it on a mailing list post when I was looking fro something else, but I can't rmanage to re-find it. Can anyone help? In case it makes a difference, I am plotted an extended elevation and reading in survex data as a 3d file. Thanks, Jenny

degree symbol
by Graham Mullan 15 Oct '15

How does one get a degree symbol into a point label? I have seen a complex way of coding one into a map comment in a thconfig file, but it would be better if one could simply put it into a label's text in a th2 file. Graham -- <mailto:graham.mullan@coly.org.uk> graham.mullan(a)coly.org.uk

Extended elevations from survex.data
by Jenny Black 14 Oct '15

14 Oct '15

Hi, I'm currently fighting with extended elevations in Therion. Before I start posting a whole lot of stupid questions, I'll start with clarifying what the right way to do this is. The cave isn't huge (3.5 km), but is relatively complex with multiple interconnected loops. The data is in survex format (ftp://ftp.gns.cri.nz/incoming/JennyB/therion/107.3d). When I've draw plans in therion, I've successfully used survex's 3d file. I'd like to do the same for my extended elevation. I'm not sure which of the following is the correct way to go (I run into problems each way!): 1. read in the original .3d file for the cave (the same one I use to draw the plan), and then choose where to break loops (and extend legs to the right or left) in my .th file as documented http://therion.speleo.sk/samples.doc/25.html. For example: import ../../../all.3d -surveys use survey 107 centerline extend ignore oldrift.17 oldroute2.17 extend left ent.13 extend right ent.16 endcenterline input 107ee_ropeless.th2 endsurvey 2. use survex's extend command (http://survex.com/docs/manual/extend.htm) to create an extended 3d file, but control the extend right/left in the .th file as above. I guess I'll need to control breaking of loops in survex via the .spec file, otherwise survex will choose where to break the loops for me. This is roughly what the mailing list suggests is the correct answer (though I note breaking of loops is not mentioned): http://mailman.speleo.sk/pipermail/therion/2007-November/001685.html and is the approach I took with mixed success a couple of years ago. I did manage to generate an elevation without needing to break any loops (either with "extend ignore" in therion or "*break" in survex): http://expo.survex.com/expofiles/surveys/107/107-elv-2013.pdf but we've since then found more cave and closed more loops, and it doesn't work on the new data set, which is what started me fighting and made me wonder if I was doing this the right way. 3. use survex's extend command with the .spec file to create a 3d file to control the breaking of loops and which direction to extend (left or right). Don't do any "extend ignore" or "extend right" in the .th2 file. Who has successfully drawn extended elevations using survex data? Which approach did you take? Are there any clever tricks, or things I might be missing? Thanks, Jenny

xvi background management
by Marco Menchise 04 Oct '15

04 Oct '15

Hello, I use to draw scraps over a .xvi exported background. So I generate .xvi file, import it in xtherion as a background image and draw scraps over it. Sometimes I need to re-generate background (for example to add new branches). If I do that and re-open th2 file I see the background is no more aligned with scraps. I use to manually edit the .th2 file and align it by changing the xth_me_image_insert directive. Is there any way to do this quickly in xtherion? Thanks, Marco

Re: [Therion] Grid coord label placement problems
by Bruce Mutton 30 Sep '15

30 Sep '15

Absolutely agree Jenny. But no solution at my end.And the issues compound when the plan is rotated on the page. For me the first solution to find is to get each component of the coordinate to align parallel with it's gridline. I have searched for the code that controls this in the past without luck.Bruce Sent from my Samsung device

So I fixed it. There was a loop in the survey I was not aware of (I didnt survey it) the notes were not drawn to scale so it wasnt apparent. Talked to one of the cavers on the trip who sorted it out.
