"\legendbox" "\loadpicture" and absolute paths
by rowena 14 Mar '21

Hello, I am using the "\loadpicture" capability in "\legendbox" constructs to include map sections, elevations, etc. It all works nicely on my PC where I am using relative paths to the pdf files. My club has a desire to archive the map data for posterity - ie if my pc dies or I go walkabout, the map data should still be available so that others can add to the maps as they are extended. I would prefer to have the images included using relative pathnames, rather than absolute pathnames, so that future explorers can download the map data and extend it, without having to duplicate my file hierarchy. How can I include relative paths in the \loadpicture functionality? Thanks, Rowena

Scale dependant error when using area fills
by Tom Foord 20 Jan '19

Hi all I'm having some problems compiling a project which includes debris area fills. Depending on the exact symbol fill that I use, I am getting strange scale-dependant errors which seem to cause the compiler to loop endlessly until I force it to stop. I originally noticed the problem when using a custom area fill that I made by modifying the standard a_debris_AUT symbol fill. I've attached my modified metapost definition in the attached text file 'a_debris_WUG.txt'. The error occurs for any scale between 1:2000 and 1:4483 (outside of this range the project compiles fine). See attached output log 'Output log - a_debris_WUG.txt'. As you can see, the file seems to loop over and over again. Initially I thought this problem was specific to my custom fill, but then I noticed that I also get a similar error when using the standard a_debris_AUT fill, however this time the error only occurs when the scale is set to exactly 1:2000 (any other scale seems to be fine). See attached output log 'Output log - a_debris_AUT.txt'. Can anyone help with this problem? Thanks Tom

Therion 5.4.1 Windows Installer incomplete installs
by Bruce Mutton 16 Oct '17

Things are getting weirder. Usually I have just installed one version of Therion over top of whatever version I have installed, but wonder if this might be contributing to issues I have here. After I have installed 5.4.1 over top of 5.4.0. If I open a thconfig file, with Help About I get 5.4.1 reported, as below If I then open a .th2 drawing file, I get 5.4.0 reported, as below So with two instances of XTherion open at the same time, each is reporting a different version. Same thing happens installing 5.4.1 88c8a06 over top of 5.4.1. The drawing editor still reports 5.4.0 Perhaps a harmless bug/omission or something odd with the installer? Initial drawing suggests the drawing editor is behaving like 5.4.1 (triangular survey stations). Bruce From: Therion [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] On Behalf Of Bruce Mutton via Therion Sent: Monday, 29 May 2017 9:44 AM To: 'List for Therion users' <therion(a)speleo.sk> Cc: Bruce Mutton <bruce(a)tomo.co.nz> Subject: [Therion] Therion 5.4.1 Windows crash if survex loop-closure I've just started catching up on a drawing project since 5.4.1 has been released. A while back I reported problems with beta versions of Therion related to 'loop-closure survex'. They were fixed in 5.4.0 Now using 5.4.1 those projects/thconfigs that crashed before now seem to be OK, but I have now found another project/thconfig that crashes with 5.4.1 but not with 5.4.0 5.4.1 runs OK with 'loop-closure therion' but gets killed by Windows 10 when I use 'loop-closure survex'. Am still using survex 1.2.27. I have attached the log file with 'loop-closure survex'. Not sure if it is related, but I notice that if I install 5.4.1 'Install Only for Me' it will not overwrite a previously installed 5.4.0, even though the installer does not report any errors or problems to the user. Ie it fails even though it looks like it has worked just fine. To get 5.4.1 to overwrite 5.4.0 I need to "Install for all users". Bruce

Therion] Therion 5.4.1 Windows Installer incomplete installs
by Bruce Mutton 16 Oct '17

Just following up on what I think is a serious problem with the 5.4.0 and 5.4.1 Windows Installers (as described below). I think the Windows installers should be taken offline until they can cleanly install in all likely situations. Either that all provide explicit information on the download page as to the limitations and how to fix the problems the installers are likely to cause. Bruce From: Therion [mailto:therion-bounces@speleo.sk] On Behalf Of Bruce Mutton via Therion Sent: Tuesday, 30 May 2017 8:48 PM To: 'List for Therion users' <therion(a)speleo.sk> Cc: Bruce Mutton <bruce(a)tomo.co.nz> Subject: Re: [Therion] Therion 5.4.1 Windows Installer incomplete installs Thanks Vladimir I seem to have got through all that successfully. I will stick to “all users” Therion installs from now on, as that puts the files in a location where I am used to looking for them. If the installer ever handles uninstalls, then the .ini files should be preserved. The former requires admin privileges, and the later can be used by a limited user. Older installer versions used Program files by default, and the new files would always overwrite the older ones. But if you had an older version in Program Files, and installed the new one for the current user in his AppData folder, you would end up with two sets of files. And with conflicting file type associations. You could try uninstalling and manually deleting the Therion install folder. Cleaning the registry entries requires using Registry Editor and deleting a set of keys, if you are comfortable doing that. The keys are these (after the text "Subkey". HKLM is HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and HKCU is HKEY_CURRENT_USER) https://github.com/therion/therion-batteries/blob/master/therion.iss#L60-L1… I suppose a better solution would be if I can make the installer uninstall any previous version before installing. This should prevent such an issue. Vladimir On Mon, May 29, 2017 at 1:12 PM, Bruce Mutton via Therion <therion(a)speleo.sk <mailto:therion@speleo.sk> > wrote: Things are getting weirder. Import a scrap into another scrap (or th2-file)
by torstein finnesand 11 Oct '17

Hi fellows, Sometimes I realize that two scraps should have been one (for instance scrap A in A.th2 should have been a part of scrap B in B.th2), in particular when it's difficult to join them. It's easy to insert the xvi file into the scrap B file. But I have to draw it again. Is there any workaround here? Torstein Finnesand Norway

Tex and language ?
by Xavier Robert 29 Sep '17

29 Sep '17

Hi all, I am currently working on maps that can be in french or in spanish. The thing is that I wrote some tex macros to add items in the header, like « Synthèse : X Y ». Inside a code tex-map/endcode block, I define the term « synthèse » as : \newtoks\thsynth \thsynth={Synthèse }. This is the french word. All my macros are in a config file placed in a parent folder. In that case, each time I change the language to spanish with the therion « language es » command that I use in my thconfig files, I also need to change the definition of \thsynth in my code tex-map/endcode block to \newtoks\thsynth \thsynth={Síntesis}. Is there a way to add a condition on the language in the code tex-map/endcode block to avoid changing manually the config file? In fact, I am looking for something like: code tex-map \if {language variable = es} \newtoks\thsynth \thsynth={Síntesis} \elsif {language variable = fr} \newtoks\thsynth \thsynth={Synthèse } \else \newtoks\thsynth \thsynth={Synthesys} \fi endcode Thanks a lot for you lights, Cheers, Xavier

Overlay grid over maps
by Steven Tucker 27 Sep '17

27 Sep '17

Good day everyone, I am in the process of remapping a large cave in which there are various archaeological / paleontological excavation areas. In one chamber of the cave an excavation grid has been setup. The excavation grid's north is 23 degrees east of true north. Magnetic north is 18 degrees west of true north. So if I put "grid bottom" into my layout I get a grid on my pdf output which is oriented to magnetic north. Is there a way to orientate this grid to 23 degrees east of true north? Thanks, Steven

No scrap stations causes warning and aborts deleting log contents
by Bruce Mutton 23 Sep '17

23 Sep '17

This warning occasionally occurs and aborts Therion compilation, despite it only being a warning. In addition the therion log file also only contains the warning. All other information is removed and no other output is produced. "C:\Program Files (x86)\Therion\therion.exe: warning -- error deleting temporary directory -- C:\Users\Bruce\AppData\Local\Temp\th7272" Sometime back, 5.3.16-ish I think, this type of warning was just that, a warning that did not impact on the project being compiled. After a while Therion, or the user, would successfully delete the temporary folder and all would be well. This time around this project would not get past the error, even though I manually deleted all the temporary folders. Other projects compiled OK. As is often the case, it was my own fault, I was busy drawing, and had created a new scrap, but had forgotten to add any 'point stations'. As I had not scaled the scrap either, Therion quite rightly did not know where to put it or what size to make it. The result being Therion aborts with the above warning and deletes all log information that the user could have used to debug the situation. I seem to recall that this scenario used to cause a different error message, but one that was a little more helpful to the user. Maybe this could be trapped and a useful message provided in a future release? Thanks Bruec
