Therion] Get shortest route
by Bruce Mutton 29 Nov '21

29 Nov '21

This was discussed in 2008 in Therion circles. https://www.mail-archive.com/therion@speleo.sk/msg02037.html To be really useful, the user should be able to specify multiple stations, with the algorithm finding the shortest centreline distance along the centreline network that passes through all of the specified points. Outputs to list as noted by Benedikt below, pdf and aven/Loch models. I don't think so. Someone was working on it, but I guess it didn't come to anything as that was 2016: https://lists.survex.com/pipermail/survex/2016-October/002082.html Cheers, Olly _______________________________________________ Therion mailing list Therion(a)speleo.sk https://mailman.speleo.sk/listinfo/therion

Export centerline and/or stations to SHP without th2 files
by עמרי גסטר 28 Nov '21

28 Nov '21

Hi everyone, I have a survey with coordinates at the first station but I don't use th2 files. When I export to loch file, It works perfect, I can see the model in the correct place together with the DEM and surface image. When I try to export to SHP or kml I get empty layers because I don't use th2 files. What I don't understand is why the centerline / splayes / stations layers are empty as well. Is there a way to export to SHP / kml only the data from the th file? -- Omri

Hiding cross-section symbols
by Bill Gee 28 Nov '21

28 Nov '21

In a map layout, what is the symbol-hide command to not produce cross-sections? I have tried these without success: layout NoCrossSections symbol-hide point section symbol-hide line cross-section symbol-hide section section symbol-hide section cross-section symbol-hide group section symbol-hide group cross-section endlayout For all of these Therion says "Unknown symbol specification". Thanks! ======== Bill Gee

Duplicate pdftex fonts
by Bill Gee 27 Nov '21

27 Nov '21

Hello everyone - This is not really a Therion question, but it happens only when I am compiling Therion maps. I figured I would start here and see if anyone has any ideas where to go for more help. Every time I compile a map to a PDF file in Therion, pdftex issues some warnings. They look like this: pdfTeX warning: pdftex (file /usr/share/texlive/texmf-var/fonts/map/pdftex/updmap/pdftex.map): fontmap entry for `rtxphvb' already exists, duplicates ignored There are ten of these, each for a different font. The maps that are produced are sane with no visible problems. I looked at the pdftex.map file and, as noted in the warning, the fonts named are in there twice. In fact, dang near EVERY font is in there twice! This warning started appearing after I upgraded from Fedora 34 to 35. It appears on two different computers. So far this is merely annoying. The maps that Therion produces look great, and I have not seen the warnings anywhere else. Even so, it would be nice to figure out what is going on and get it fixed. Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone have suggestions on where to go for help on fixing it? Thanks! ======== Bill Gee

Cutting off a grid
by Tarquin Wilton-Jones 25 Nov '21

25 Nov '21

Hi, We have a vertical cave that is just over 100 metres deep, with its entrance just below a 100 metre contour. We want to show a grid on the elevation view, like this: #show an altitude grid every 25 metres #("50 50" affects only plan view, so is ignored here) grid bottom #behind the cave grid-size 50 50 10 meters #one line every 25 metres of depth grid-coords border #show numbers at the edge of the survey This leaves a 20+ metre gap at the bottom, since the cave only just made it past the last 25 metre grid line. 1. Is there a way to cut off the grid after a certain amount, so that it doesn't show the blank gap at the bottom? Or alternatively, cut off the grid after the cave ends? Or "show the next grid line if the cave is within 5 metres of it"? 2. Is there a way to start the grid at "0" at the entrance to the cave, in order to show depth below the entrance instead of the altitude above sea level? I tried this: grid-origin 0 0 400 meters But Therion just threw an error with no error message, so I am obviously doing something wrong. Does that only work in plan view perhaps?

thfill with page background colour?
by Benedikt Hallinger 24 Nov '21

24 Nov '21

Hi metapost wizards, I try to fill a label with the page background. thfill ((bbox lab)) scaled (sc * basescale * 1.5) withcolor <insertColorHere>; For <insertColorHere> i tried "label_fill_color", which however may be a different background. I also tried "background", but that yields the cave passage background colour. In which variable do i access the page's background color (the one set wit the layout option "map-bg")? Thanks! Beni

Is survey -namespace off and sometimes on possible in same survey project?
by Bruce Mutton 22 Nov '21

22 Nov '21

Just a quick question before contemplating the migration of a large (more than 70 km and many caves) dataset to Therion. The dataset has unique station names, so in Therion speak, every survey would have -namespace off set. I have never used this setting, but do not anticipate any problem so long as every survey has -namespace off set. The trick is that there are two caves that have been processed from the very start with Therion (using the default -namespace on, of course) and one of the large caves has a currently 'not-incorporated' section of Therion namespaced data. None of this Therion data is currently incorporated in the large dataset. There will probably be more namespaced data in future. So my question is: Can we have an integrated Therion project where some surveys have -namespace on and some with -namespace off? I imagine this will work, but having never tried it I am cautious about diving into such a large undertaking, in case it is doomed to failure because of a requirement for significant manual intervention (I did that for 30 km of the system, but I have lost enthusiasm for that). Can't install latest version on MAC

Hi, I have problem to install latest release of Therion on macOS BIG SUR 11.6. When I run “make config-macosx && make && make install” I get the following error: “c++ -c -Wall -D_GNU_SOURCE -DLOCH -W -Wall -std=c++14 -DLXMACOSX -I/usr/local/lib/wx/include/osx_cocoa-unicode-3.1 -I/usr/local/include/wx-3.1 -D_FILE_OFFSET_BITS=64 -DWXUSINGDLL -D__WXMAC__ -D__WXOSX__ -D__WXOSX_COCOA__ -I/usr/local/opt/freetype/include/freetype2 -I/usr/local/include/vtk-5.4 -Wno-deprecated -I/usr/X11R6/include -I/usr/X11R6/include/freetype2 -O2 -DNDEBUG -DIMG_API_VERSION=1 -o lxSetup.o lxSetup.cxx In file included from lxSetup.cxx:38: In file included from ./lxSetup.h:23: ./lxData.h:35:10: fatal error: 'vtkPolyData.h' file not found #include <vtkPolyData.h> ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1 error generated. make[1]: *** [lxSetup.o] Error 1 make: *** [loch/loch] Error 2 ” Then when running “therion -v” I see “dyld: Library not loaded: /usr/local/opt/proj/lib/libproj.19.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/therion Reason: image not found Abort trap: 6 ” In “lib“ I have higher version of libproj - libproj.22.dylib Can anyone help with how to fix this? Thanks, Efrosina

XVI format specification
by Rodrigo Severo 17 Nov '21

17 Nov '21

Hi, I would like to implement XVI image format visualization support in Mapiah but couldn't find XVI image format specification (in my rather quick search, I confess). Can someone please give me some pointers? Specification, supporting library or else? Regards, Rodrigo
