3D Models KML

Hi everybody, I'm still quite new with models and georeferencing so I'm struggling with a probably very basic issue; I need a KML file to be utilized into Google Earth. To give Geo references I thought I could have inserted a single fixed station in one of the surveys, but the outcome is still "data not georeferenced". Could you please help me in solving this issue? I'm using utf-8 and nested surveys. Is the fixed station needed in just one survey or each survey should have a fixed one? All surveys are connected by at least one station. Could you give me an axample of a georeferenced fixed station? I used the one available in the examples but I cannot make it work. thanks in advance Andrea Presentaci un amico! deleting files uploaded to the wiki

I want to replace some files that I uploaded to the wiki some time ago with updated versions. It seems that special permissions are required to delete or overwrite the old files. Would it be possible to gain such permission? Bruce

Colours in area fill patterns replaced with black
by Duncan Collis 04 Mar '10

04 Mar '10

Here's a bug that's been annoying me for a while: In recent (5.2.11 and newer) versions of Therion (on WinXP sp3), colours used in area fill patterns are replaced with black. The simple test case attached demonstrates the effect: In v 5.2.10 and earlier, you get a square filled with a red cross-hatch pattern, while in 5.2.11 and later the fill pattern is black. I initially suspected that the change from Metapost 0.641 to 1.201 bundled with the Windows install of Therion might be to blame as I first noticed this bug around that time, but a little testing indicates that both Therion 5.2.9 and 5.2.10 use Metapost 1.201 and don't exhibit this bug. FW: Loch and Splay shots

Giorgio I too am just getting into paperless survey with the distoX. I understand that Loch does not yet produce passage walls from splay shots. The generic tubes you are getting are what you get when Loch thinks there is no LRUD data, so that the model at least looks a bit like a cave I guess. When you cannot see the splays, use Tools.Scene menu item, select centreline and tick splays, as below if you can see the enclosed pictures. You can make other 'scene' changes here as well. In the Loch screenshot below, the background passage has LRUD data (surveyed the paper way), and the foreground has only splay shots (paperless survey). Both passages have a plan drawing, and so the plan outline of the passages is mimicked in the Loch model. For the paperless survey the passage height is a generic value that Loch determines, because it can not use the splay shots yet (they can be seen poking out of the top of the passage). I presume that if this paperless survey thing 'takes off', then passage wall generation from splay shots will be developed. Regards Bruce

Loch and Splay shots
by Giorgio Pannuzzo 02 Mar '10

Hi. Sadly, last Loch version has just few new features and most of old issues... I'm testing my new distoX and my last survey was made using splay shots and no LRUD's. Checking new data with Loch, I noticed that walls are just tube-like shaped. I can see splayshots, but no way to use them to create correct walls. When I mix new and old (with LRUD's) data I can see ONLY centerline and splay shots on new ones, without any kind of walls. Can somebody explain what is happening? Thanks to all. Multi-level cave - offset the levels
by Bruce 27 Feb '10

>Question one: I am working on a map of a cave which has a maze section. I >would like to compile the map so that the bottom level is connected to the >est of the cave while the top level is offset to one side. How is that >one? Bill A quick and perhaps inadequate reply, as I'm about to head off caving for a few days... Define a map (or maps) for the part of the cave that is to be offset. Look up pg 31 of The (current) Therion book regarding maps. Put some code defining an overall map in your INDEX*.th file along the lines of... map MiddleEarthPlanMap \ -title "Middle Earth and<br>Lower Greenlink Caves<br>Plan View" \ -projection plan GreenlinkFPlan@MiddleEarth # map defined in surveyF.th MiddleEarthEPlan@MiddleEarth # map defined in surveyE.th GreenlinkKPlan@MiddleEarth [-100 -100 m] above GreenlinkPPlan@MiddleEarth [-100 -100 m] above endmap The last two maps in the above will be offset 100m south and 100m west, and there will be an outline on the main part of the cave showing where the offset passages really lie. >Q2: s there a way to make Therion automatically scale the cross-section > based on the survey points rather than a scale line? I have only ever used the scale line, without trouble, so cannot comment. >Question three: Some of the area symbols seem to be a bit light in their >coverage. I have several areas defined as "clay" or "pebbles", but when >drawn on the map there is maybe one or two dots in the area. Is there a >way to increase the density? You could try some of the examples here http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=metapost#cave_symbol_size_and_dens ity_examples Or perhaps better is to use point clay and point pebbles more often and area clay and area pebbles less often. Multi-level cave - offset the levels
by Bill Gee 25 Feb '10

25 Feb '10

Question one: I am working on a map of a cave which has a maze section. I would like to compile the map so that the bottom level is connected to the rest of the cave while the top level is offset to one side. How is that done? Yes, the top level is in two scraps of its own Question two: The same cave has a pit entrance perhaps 15 meters deep. I have a cross section of the pit with several survey points on it. Is there a way to make Therion automatically scale the cross-section based on the survey points rather than a scale line? When I use a scale line, the cross section comes out too big. I've had to fudge the scale to get it to draw approximately correct. Question three: Some of the area symbols seem to be a bit light in their coverage. I have several areas defined as "clay" or "pebbles", but when drawn on the map there is maybe one or two dots in the area. Is there a way to increase the density? Thanks - Bill Gee
