What is exactly "extended elevation"?
by Maximillian Dornseif 27 Feb '12

27 Feb '12

It may be a stupid question but is "extended elevation" a well known term I just don't know ("e.g. unrolled intersection") or is it just an "elevation plot with extender features." I studied the Therion Book but I still have the feeling I'm missing something. Regards --md

Recommendations for the best way to define areas
by Footleg 22 Feb '12

22 Feb '12

My instinct when drawing is to define an area with lines drawn exactly defining the area, each line starting at the same point as the last line ends. So I split my wall lines at the points where I want the area border to join the wall, and drawn border lines between points on the walls. This looks neater to me. But I realise that this is not required because you can just overlap the border lines across the walls to define the area, and any fill will be clipped by the walls anyway. So what I am wondering is are there any advantages to one method over the other? See the attached bitmap illustrating areas defined in the two different ways I just described. (Left side shows overlapped lines not joined at points. Right side shows neater area defined exactly by bounding lines.) Footleg

Centerline and sizes above walls
by Marco Menchise 20 Feb '12

20 Feb '12

Hello, I'm a Therion newbie, and I have a (maybe trivial) question. I have survey data of a cave (eg, distance, compass, clino, left, backleft, right backrigt, up, down) and I'm able to plot the centerline and sizes. I also learned how to plot walls using the sketches (I do plot walls on the sketch, then I "morph" the sketch). Now I wish to obtain the plant or the elevation profiles with the walls *and* the centerline and sizes (the best thing should be to have them overlayed but with some transparency), to verify how correctly I draw the walls based only on the sketches. Is it possibile? If I plot the walls I miss the cave sizes. To have the cave size drawn I usually comment out the input directive; in such way no scraps are included and I'm able to plot the centerline and transversal sizes, but I cannot compare to walls... I deeply searched the docs with no luck. Thanks, Marco

how to edit joins
by Martin Sluka 20 Feb '12

20 Feb '12

There is a problem to join two scraps if not from one sketch very ofen. The walls are overlying (they are too long) and automatic join product no very "esthetic" results. You may: 1. open two or more xtherions and in each one map editor open one .th2 file. So you may easy edit the both (or more) scraps, save them, and compile with "debug on" again. 2. Open the .th2 files in Inkscape and do the same. Edit scraps according results of compiling with "debug on", save and recompile. You may use command line. It works on MacOSX too! Martin Sluka

slopes in small caves
by Maximillian Dornseif 20 Feb '12

20 Feb '12

We have lots of small slopes like http://filez.foxel.org/3F2Z0L2K1B1a0G2T2539 - rendering them in Therion results in something like http://filez.foxel.org/440r3f2R1M0F2g3W0G2Z which is unsatisfactory - I would prefer mor orthogonal lines to the slope base line. To my understanding this can be accomplished by redefining METAPOST code. In http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=mmj:4 Images http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/lib/exe/detail.php?id=mmj%3A4&media=czsk:mmj:… and http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/lib/exe/detail.php?id=mmj%3A4&media=czsk:mmj:… this seems to have been done. But the provided METAPOST code seems only to redefine a_blocks. I checked l_slope_SKBB in mpost/thLine.mp but this seems to be a non-trivial 140 line function. Is there an easier way to move slope bars tighter together? Anny Help would be appreciated! Maximillian

I am a new user to Therion and cannot understand the presentation of centerline data in the map file. Stations that I fix with true data are plotted correctly but other data is skewed, especially pure up or down stations. Can you advise where I am going wrong Chris

Loch error on ubuntu
by Vasily Vl. Suhachev 16 Feb '12

16 Feb '12

Hello Ubuntu 11.10, Therion 5.3.8, netbook with Intel 945GME video controller The program 'loch' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'. (Details: serial 931 error_code 9 request_code 136 minor_code 8) (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously; that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it. To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.) -- WBR, Vasily

Hi, once, I think Footleg has had a solution to change "old" KML-Files to the new Version needed for Google Earth. Excuse me, I have cancelled his answer. Can you send it please once more to the list. Regards Markus
