Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV
by Bruce 19 Oct '15

19 Oct '15

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

Therion hanging after compile
by Jenny Black 13 Jan '15

13 Jan '15

Hi, When I compile therion, it appears to compile fine (assuming I haven't made a mistake!), and the green button on the right changes to green, and says "OK", but then it will hang. It is still running, and using lots of CPU, but I cant do anything with it without killing it. This happens either if I compile by hitting F9, or pressing the "compile" button. The same thing happens if I make a mistake and it doesn't compile, but gives me a red "Error" button. When I restart therion, and load back in my files everything works as expected... until I compile it again. I am running therion from debian (unstable) package 5.3.14-1, but I think this also happened in the previous version. Thanks, Jenny ___ Re-sending this message a week later as it didn't appear to reach the list (though i got no bounce message), apologies if you get it twice.

Compiling Therion projects from Notepad++
by Footleg 08 Jan '15

08 Jan '15

I find having multiple thconfig files open so I can compile different parts of my large cave system project very useful. So I was investgating how to run Therion from Notepad++ (my preferred text editor). This is how I got it working: I wrote a 2 line batch file containing these commands: cd %1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Therion\therion.exe" %2 Saved to somewhere on disk, and then call it from Notepad++ using the Run command, as follows: On the Run menu in Notepad++, Select the 'Run' item, and enter the command as follows: "C:\Personal\Caving\Therion\compileTherion.bat" "$(CURRENT_DIRECTORY)" "$(FILE_NAME)" (But using the path to where you saved your batch file). Save the command (I called it 'Compile Therion' and gave it the shortcut CTRL+T). Now with any thconfig file open in a tab in Notepad++, I can compile that project by pressing CTRL+T, or by selecting 'Compile Therion' from the Run menu. You can create multiple thconfig files in the same folder on Windows, by giving them any filename you want with the extension .thc or give them no extension at all. That way all the files will be listed in the 'Open File' dialog from the compile tab in xTherion. Next I'll see if I can get my batch file to open the output PDF automatically in Foxit Reader :) But that will be less general because I need to pick a PDF filename which can vary between my thconfig files. What is going on with these survey legs?
by Bill Gee 09 Sep '14

09 Sep '14

Hello everyone - I am struggling with a couple of survey shots that Therion is not interpretting correctly. It might be a bug in how Therion averages forward and backward compass when the readings are near 360 and 180 degrees. Here is a block of centerline data. The two shots causing problems are B8-B9 and B14-B15. data normal from to tape compass clino backcompass backclino left right up down B1 B2 35.7 32 22 214 -20 14 4 4 2.5 B2 B3 16.4 31 -20 211 21 9 - 12 3 B3 B4 40.5 18 3 197 -2 0 8 5 4 B4 B5 24.6 82 5 263 -5 4 8 40 4 B5 B6 18.8 18 -5 199 5 3 12 5 2 B6 B7 43.0 59.5 2 241 -2 - 10 0 2.5 B7 B8 67.7 348 0 169 0 6 3 2.5 4 B8 B9 28.5 359 -2 181 2 8 4 .5 1.5 <<=== B9 B10 25.2 351.5 1 174 -2 2 8 2 1 B10 B11 16.1 40 -3 221 3 4 7 0 1 B11 B12 38.0 0 2 180 -3 3 7 1.5 3 B12 B13 17.3 338 -6 160 5 10 10 2 1.5 B13 B14 28.0 338 3 158 -4 9 8 0 3.5 B14 B15 49.0 359.5 -1 180 0 7 4.5 0 5.5 <<=== B15 B16 46.3 7 -10 189 9 4.5 5 6 1.5 B16 B17 22.1 317.5 8 140 -8 8 7 3 4 B17 BM1 15.5 348.5 -5 168.5 4 4 10 15 4 As you can see, this passage is going basically straight north. Therion interprets both shots as having a forward compass reading of 180, with result that the compiled map has the passage going backward on itself. If I replace the back compass with a dash, then the map compiles correctly. I tried reversing the forward and backward compass readings, but it made no difference. One of the shots (B11-B12) has compass readings of exactly 0 and 180. This shot displays correctly on the map. Any thoughts? Thanks - Bill Gee

Separating Legend Boxes from Title
by Henry Bennett 31 Jul '14

31 Jul '14

I'm trying to place my legend boxes in a different part of the page from the main survey title and other \legendcontent info. To do this I expected to be able to define a second \legendbox and instruct the legend boxes to be drawn. Problem is that to suppress the legend boxes from the first \legendbox I've had to use "legend = off" in my map layout. This seems to suppress the rendering of all legend boxes even if I try and use "input th_legend" thereby bypassing the \iflegend test. Seems I need to reassign "legend = on" in Tex but the PDFTex manuals are not an easy read. Any ideas? ----th file---------------------------------- Layout banner legend off code tex-map \legendbox{0}{100}{NW}{ \the\legendcontent } \legendbox{50}{50}{NW}{ \input th_legend } endcode endlayout

Therion Wiki Account

How do I get an account for the wiki? Registration is currently disabled. As a first time user there are a bunch of things I've learnt along the way which others could benefit from and I'd like to post to the wiki. Thanks in advance, Henry

Some patches
by Olly Betts 27 Jul '14

27 Jul '14

Hi therioneers, Attached are five patches: therion-document-missing-cs.patch Not all the coordinate systems which therion understands are listed in the manual - this patch adds the missing ones, though I don't know what JTSK03, IJTSK03 or S-MERC are, so please fill in where the '?' are. therion-fix-init-order.patch In C++, class members are initialised in the order declared in the class, and it's clearer if the order of the initialiser list matches the order the members are actually initialised in. Some compilers will issue a warning if they don't match. therion-fix-memory-leak.patch Free the memory proj_init_plus() allocates. therion-fix-typo.patch Fix a typo. therion-remove-unsigned-less-than-zero-checks.patch These checks can never be true, since size_t is unsigned. I've removed them in the patch, though perhaps these checks were intended to be ==0 rather than <0? Cheers, Olly

I've written a more sophisticated version of Andrew Atkinsons webSearch program. It can be seen running at http://sarawak-caves.com/php/websearch.php and is available for download at http://www.daveclucas.com/cms/index.php/downloads/category/15-therion Please try it out and let me know if everything works.
