Bruce Thanks for your explanations. At Sun, 31 Jan 2010 14:24:11 +1300, Bruce Mutton wrote: > It is documented, but on searching just now I discovered it is quite hard to > find. I don't think we can do much userul with these files, because they are already processed. > Attached are some notes I made to myself on how to use the gadgets and > process the data in a consistent way. If I understand that correctly, PocketTopo is still completely closed and the file format not documented. Also from reading your comments, the PDA software seems to be quite inflexible (first splay shots, then next target). Since I am also considering going that route, these seem to be severe limitations. Working together with people using PocketTopo, it is quite inconvenint not to have true Therion *.th files with the full set of measurements, but just processed data. It would be great to be able to write a *.top conversion utility, but for that the file format needs to known. Best, Martin

DistoX and PocketTopo with Therion
by Bruce Mutton 13 Apr '10

Hi there I have a Disto arriving hopefully in a few days, and looking ahead I've been tentatively trialling PocketTopo on my PC. I suspect therein lies my first problem. Perhaps it only has limited functionality on PC's? I can manually enter data, but I can not seem to draw passage outline. The Export Therion format does not seem to produce data in a format similar to what Therion normally accepts - after the data it produces some form of co-ords separated into plan and elevation partitions. Most of the survey stations are converted to 10 digit numbers and all of the keywords are in capitals. Much of the file content could be made Therion compatible relatively easily using a text editor, but surely this is not what is intended? Obviously there is something significant here that I am missing. Have searched about but have not found the solution yet. Does anyone have a small dataset that demonstrates the interaction between PocketTopo and Therion? Bruce

i was playing with calibrate command, in the centerline block. i put more than two numbers and therion crashes. (i know that i'm supposed to put only one or two numeric args). therion 5-3 gcc 4.1.2 libc 2.10.1 marco

FW: "Passage height" question
by Bruce 25 Mar '10

25 Mar '10

>I would rather use metric, as someone suggested. I don't have that option on >this map - all the data is in feet and tenths of a foot. Maybe the next cave I see no reason why the data entered in feet and inches in the centrelines and surveys could not be exported to the map and atlas outputs in metric units. I have never done it because 'we' are metric, but it seems to me that Therion generally allows any unit output regardless of that used for input. The Therion Book seems to imply this would work. This type of philosophy works for me for coordinate systems. Bruce

"Passage height" question
by Bill Gee 25 Mar '10

25 Mar '10

Hello everyone - I have a question about the point type "Passage height". I am working on a map which has some ceiling heights under 1 foot. When I put in "-value [0.5 ft]", for example, it comes out on the map as zero, or "-value [1.5 ft]" comes out as 2. Is there a way to make those come out with the value given? There is a passage section which has a voice and light connection, about 35 feet long and 6 or 8 feet wide but only 6 inches high. It is not human passable, but we can talk through it. I want to indicate its height correctly. Thanks - Bill Gee

Bug in extended xvi / xvi 450000 issue
by Bruce 19 Mar '10

19 Mar '10

Stacho If you're still in a frame of mind to mess with xvi file generation, I have a (small?) request. Would it be possible to implement the 'rotate' statement for exports to xvi plan projections? This would mean that in scraps traced over these rotated plans, label alignment in the Xtherion interface would match the label alignment produced in 2D outputs. This would provide a workaround to the current problem where left right top bottom alignments in Xtherion are usually transposed when applied to rotated 2D outputs. Cheers Bruce PS: Implementing 'rotate' for data imported from PocketTopo transition files to xvi files would be, similarly, much appreciated.

Explored always zero in continuation list

Have just noticed that 'explored lengths' are always reported as zero in continuation-list, They are correctly reported in caves-list and surveys-list. Bruce

Therion Freezes part way through Loch file Generation

Therion will also freeze if there are any empty scraps referenced (even if there are plenty of scraps with stations in them, in the same th2 file). Would be a nice thing to put on the 'to do' list - add a test and warning for empty scraps. Bruce

3D Models KML
by mara 16 Mar '10

16 Mar '10

Hi everybody, I'm still quite new with models and georeferencing so I'm struggling with a probably very basic issue; I need a KML file to be utilized into Google Earth. To give Geo references I thought I could have inserted a single fixed station in one of the surveys, but the outcome is still "data not georeferenced". Could you please help me in solving this issue? I'm using utf-8 and nested surveys. Is the fixed station needed in just one survey or each survey should have a fixed one? All surveys are connected by at least one station. Could you give me an axample of a georeferenced fixed station? I used the one available in the examples but I cannot make it work. thanks in advance Andrea Presentaci un amico!
