DistoX and PocketTopo with Therion
by Bruce Mutton 13 Apr '10

Hi there I have a Disto arriving hopefully in a few days, and looking ahead I've been tentatively trialling PocketTopo on my PC. I suspect therein lies my first problem. Perhaps it only has limited functionality on PC's? I can manually enter data, but I can not seem to draw passage outline. The Export Therion format does not seem to produce data in a format similar to what Therion normally accepts - after the data it produces some form of co-ords separated into plan and elevation partitions. Most of the survey stations are converted to 10 digit numbers and all of the keywords are in capitals. Much of the file content could be made Therion compatible relatively easily using a text editor, but surely this is not what is intended? Obviously there is something significant here that I am missing. Have searched about but have not found the solution yet. Does anyone have a small dataset that demonstrates the interaction between PocketTopo and Therion? Bruce

Changing symbols for area debris
by Gilbert Fernandes (mailinglist) 31 Mar '09

Hello, I try to change the symbols for my survey (small survey), and I follow the wiki to increas symbol numbers for area blocks, pebbles and debris. http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=mmj It work find for blocks and pebbles area, but the changes for debris seams to not been taken in account. I past my code for a_debris in the a_blocks definition, the symbols are well drawn (on blocks areas). So the code is good I thing. Here the code. def a_debris (expr p) = T:=identity; % thclean p; pickup PenB; path q; q = bbox p; picture tmp_pic; tmp_pic := image( for i = xpart llcorner q step 0.3u until xpart urcorner q: for j = ypart llcorner q step 0.3u until ypart urcorner q: draw ((-.15u,0)--(.15u,0)) rotated uniformdeviate(360) shifted ((i,j) randomized 0.3u) withpen PenA; endfor; endfor; ); clip tmp_pic to p; draw tmp_pic; enddef; Do you have the same problem ? may be I have to add othe command lines ? I use the windows release 5.2.7. Thanks, Gilbert

Points serveyed with Theo

Hi, I have a question about "drawing" points only with UTM Coordinates in a map. I have defined them as staion point and fixed them with UTM coordinates. But that don`t works. For example: centerline -cs UTM32 data normal from to length compass clino 421 422 17.16 319 24 ... and so on #fix 203 57516.48 5364812.47 576.67 endcenterline In this version therion works (In th2-file the point is shut off too) If I shut on the point in th-file and in th2-file therion gives an error "error -- can not connect 421@VH9 to centerline network" Please give me an Idea. Hello Is there a symbol for the fact that we artificially, by means of explosifs, have forced (enlarged) a passage? Problem on moving scraps on the final survey
by Gilbert Fernandes (mailinglist) 19 Mar '09

19 Mar '09

Hello, I notice a problem when you try to move a part of the survey on the final survey. I follow the doc (wiki chapt 3.4.4 offseting scraps http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=tbe:wiki3 <http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=tbe:wiki3> ) It work fine, but to move down a branch of the survey on an extended elevation, I add a virtual vertical survey with the flags indicated in the doc flags duplicate extend ignore 20 20a 10.00 90 0 0 0 0 0 But all the points "altitude" give the new altitude increased of 10 meters (with a vertical survey of 10 m). How can I do to have the good altitude ? Do you have a special flag on the survey measurments to say to therion to not take in account this survey for altitude ? I have the same probleme in the 3D model with Loch because my 3D model take in account this survey and my branch is not in the good place. If you have a solution, thanks a lot ! Gilbert

join command on windows gallery
by Gilbert Fernandes (mailinglist) 18 Mar '09

Hello, I notice a strange thing in Thérion (5.2) When you put a window in a wall (wiki chapt 3.4.6 Window in the wall http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php?id=tbe:wiki3) if the survey of the galery arriving in the window (survey points 2, 10 and 11 in the exemple of the wiki), is drawn in the scrap in the reverse side ( -flip horizontal for the scrap). the lines (wall lines) must be reversed in the join command. In my drawing, the line up ends on the windows, and the line down began in the window. The join command should be join up@MeandreEst:end <mailto:up@MeandreEst:end> window@GrandBlack:end join down@MeandreEst:0 window@GrandBlack:0 but this join command corrupt the drawing (I don't know how to say it in english : I have gallery compression) If I change the join like that : join up@MeandreEst:0 window@GrandBlack:end join down@MeandreEst:end window@GrandBlack:0 The drawing is perfect (I am in an extended survey). An other tip : the survey of my branch(MeandreEst) was done from the end to the entrence (the window). I had no problem with an other branch witch was surveyed from the entrance (the window) to the end, and the scrap drawn in the same direction of the final survey (no -flip horizontal). If you can have a look. I have already solved my problem (reversing the end and 0 parameter for the lines) but it seems a bit strange. Thanks a lot for your work. Gilbert

Re: [Therion] Therion Digest, Vol 40, Issue 12

I think this is just a matter of terminology. Depth should perhaps read vertical range or denivelation. What you are suggesting would only be valid for a cave with a single entrance. depth

Hello eveyone I'm new to this list (3 days) and I already saw something that, in my opinion, may be better: As well on the plan as on the extended elevation there is mentioned 'Depth' followed by the meters between the highest point and the lowest point of the cave. But we have found, for the moment just a little cave, that goes at the entrance down for about 5 meter and then slowly up for about 15 meter. So I believe it would be better that there is: 'Depth: -5 m , + 15 m'. Thank you Verhoeven Guido _________________________________________________________________ Een pauze nodig? join command
by Boldt, Markus 12 Mar '09

12 Mar '09

Hello, in one case the "join" command doesn`t works on my computer. Version Therion 5.2.7 I have two scraps in one *.th2-file. There are only two lines (type wall) in that second scrap. So I have, like described in TB, given IDs to that two lines and to two other lines in the first scrap. Then I have written this command line in my *.th-file after "endcenterline"-command. join VH10_L1@VH10:0 VH10_L3@VH10:0 It gives a "survey does not exist -- VH10" error. If I comment out the line it works without a problem. The map is written but the lines resp. the points of the lines are not connected. And that was it, what I wanted to do. Where is the fault, which I make? regards Markus

Presenting Therion
by Stefan Oswald 11 Mar '09

11 Mar '09

Hi, Paul Karoshi and I were pleased to present Therion on a nation wide speleological conference in Austria on the 28th-29th of march. Different approaches of direct cave drawing programms, such as applications for Corel Draw, Adobe InDesign and Autocad are presented by their users. We also will prepare a small practical introduction for interested people. Our question is: Is there any material of presentation you can support us with? Greetings and Glück Tief, steff
