Re: [Therion] Automatic scaling of PDF output

Unfortunately, this is what I had suspected. An iterative process could do it but it would end up slower and more complex. But thanks for the reply anyway :) -------- Original message --------From: Martin Budaj <m.budaj(a)gmail.com> Date: 24/05/2019 20:23 (GMT+00:00) To: List for Therion users <therion(a)speleo.sk> Subject: Re: [Therion] Automatic scaling of PDF output Hiunfortunately Therion doesn't support this. It would be actually quite complicated to implement it, as map symbols are scale-dependent so to know the exact size of the output drawing (not just the centreline), you have to draw it first in the selected scale.MartinOn Fri, May 24, 2019 at 11:00 AM Tarquin Wilton-Jones via Therion <therion(a)speleo.sk> wrote:Hi, I am sure this must have been asked before, but was not able to find anything in the mailing list archives or wiki... Automatic scaling of PDF output

help line to propose all the options of an object (#137)
by Bruce Mutton 22 May '19

Bergil I had, and still have, this problem. My solution was to write this https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/drawingchecklist Now I mostly have it memorised, but quite often I need to refer to it, and have it open on my second monitor. And in addition, XTherion more recently has a right click context menu. The options, and theire parameters could be shown like a unix command line syntax : [-scale xs/s/m/l ] [-text "mytexte"] ... Thanks — You are receiving this because you are subscribed to this thread. Setting scale on custom symbol
by Bill Gee 22 May '19

22 May '19

Hello everyone - I have defined a custom symbol for electric light fixtures. The MetaPost code is below. Now that I have used it, I find that it draws the symbol too large. I tried using "-scale small" and "-scale tiny", and that helps. Rather than go through and add that to every point, I would like to change the MetaPost so it draws the symbol a bit smaller. And I am lazy! I could replot all the points for each of the lines. It seems to me there should be a simpler way. I tried messing with the U:= parameters, but they seem to make no difference whatever. Is there a way I can declare a multiplier in the MetaPost code? Perhaps declaring u = 0.6u? Thanks! -- Bill Gee # This code defines an artificial electric light. Used in tourist sections of a cave. def p_u_electriclight (expr pos,theta,sc,al) = U:=(0.3u, 0.3u); T:=identity aligned al rotated theta scaled sc shifted pos; pickup PenC; thdraw fullcircle scaled 0.5u shifted (0.0u, 0.7u); thdraw (-0.5u, -0.6u) -- (-0.5u, 0.0u); thdraw (-0.5u, 0.0u) .. (-0.35u, 0.55u) .. (0.0u, 0.7u); thdraw (0.0u, 0.7u) .. (0.35u, 0.55u) .. (0.5u, 0.0u); thdraw (0.5u,0.0u) -- (0.5u, -0.6u); thdraw (-0.7u, -0.6u) -- (0.7u, -0.6u); enddef;

How to change alignment of "steps"
by Bill Gee 22 May '19

22 May '19

Hello everyone - See the attached screenshot. Notice the area under survey station OC2a. This is supposed to be some steps going up to the concrete block wall. Problem - The lines that show each step are not aligned the right way. They should be perpendicular to the survey line. How can I make a line of type "steps" change its alignment? I used "-attr c 8" to tell it how many steps. Is there another parameter to attr that tells which way to align the steps? And is there any parameter that indicates which way is up? The area is drawn using a line of type "steps". I started in the right-hand corner and drew in an anti-clockwise direction, making sure the line rejoins itself. The first segment of the line follows the steps in their up direction. Related question: The box under survey station OC2 is also steps. However, it is red. I cannot figure out why. Also, it does not show any steps. There should be 4 steps in it. And for those who pay attention - The empty box just north of OC5 should show two steps. Thanks! -- Bill Gee

Joining surveys at a curved/sloping pitch
by Tarquin Wilton-Jones 11 May '19

11 May '19

Hi all, I have an awkward situation in my survey. One of our caves was surveyed in 2 surveys. The 2 surveys join at a sloping pitch with a secondary hole dropping into it. I have managed to draw it all in a way that makes logical sense, but I can't work out how to join the two surveys in the right manner. See attached. Green = upper passage survey. Blue & purple = lower passage and pitch survey. The part I want to fix is the green-blue boundary, where the blue should ideally follow the "pit" lines Ideally, pitches/pits should have their lower colour taken from the lower passage, and their upper colour taken from the upper passage. This is easy when they are in the same survey; you just draw your "pit" line in the upper scrap, and then follow that exact same line with a "-visibility off" wall in the lower scrap. When joining surveys, they are joined in a straight line at the scrap boundaries. This makes it very hard to draw the curved pitch heads, since curves are not straight lines, and you cannot follow the exact same line as the other scrap, because the other scrap sits in another survey, in another .th2 file. I can make additional "lower" scraps in the "upper survey" to follow the pit outlines, but how can I make those scraps take on the colour of a scrap using survey stations in another survey file? Does anyone have any methods to work with this situation? (Preferably not something that becomes just a bunch of trial and error, and then joining every single curve point in the two surveys. I could do that, but it is really painful.) Thanks for any advice, Tarquin

Maps of maps at lower level in survey tree
by alastair gott 07 May '19

Hi Therion Mailing list, I'm struggling with something after a surveying trip on Saturday (I've drawn everything up) but now want to strip the survey into lower and upper sections. At present I can run the top level .th file and stripped down config file to get the survey tree out (so I could select surveys individually at a lower level). However when I'm trying to use the code used in the Therion samples [installed on download]. therion/samples/map-offset/thconfig.4 it doesn't work. Please find below my error message, .th and config files, does anyone know where i'm going wrong? For JMBegley who very kindly maintains Fedora packages for both Therion and Survex ...
