Re: [Therion] Therion .th2 blank screen

Actually, the advice I should have given is: Try double clicking on the object list (object 62 in the image below). That will bring the object to the centre of the screen. Unless there was a problem with the drawing area extents, in which case I don’t know what would happen. Caveatron with Therion
by Bruce Mutton 05 Oct '19

Is Caveatron something that could integrate with Therion? Open source and uses plain text files, so it seems philosophically compatible. http://caveatron.com/ https://github.com/Caveatron http://www.caveatron.com/documents/Caveatron_Paper_Proceedings_ICS_2017.pdf Bruce

Formats for GIS and bbox error
by Andrew Atkinson 01 Oct '19

01 Oct '19

GIS is getting more and more powerful, and looks like it is doing what we try to do in programmes like aven and loch. So I can take the output from therion like the pdf and get it into QGIS, but I have to manually do it bbox seems to give the promise of coordinates however export map -format bbox gives the error therion: error -- thconfig [16] -- format not supported -- bbox If this does what I believe it should it would help. However, I was hoping that some of the more common formats could be supported, web research shows that goepdf exist, so hopefully this could be easily implemented. Although I'm not sure QGIS supports it, but here are pages describing how to convert it to geoTIFF and geoJPG getting these directly as an export would be even better. I also see that therion exports models and maps as shapefiles (esri) but again they seem not to have the coordinates in either? Am i missing something? Sorry I'm, just starting on this journey and already seem to be going round in circles thanks Andrew

code tex-map maplayout
by Bruce Mutton 01 Oct '19

01 Oct '19

Following Andrew’s questions about code tex-map and not being able to get \formattedlegend to work, I have again experimented to try to resolve some issues I have been having. I hope you managed to get \formattedlegend to work Andrew. I did some experimentation and did not have too much difficulty in getting it to plot in a customised \maplayout. One insight I got from Audrey’s post is that \input th_legend will do almost the same thing as \formattedlegend – the plot just does not have a title. That will be useful sometimes. I don’t think I understand tex, tex-map or \maplayout well enough to be able to provide any insight beyond what has already been given however. On a similar vein, invoking a custom \maplayout code tex-map \def\maplayout{ … } causes any layout map-image specifications to silently fail. I am aware that there is a work around, as described in the wiki <https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tex?s%5b%5d=tex&s%5b%5d=map#changing_the_loo k_or_layout_of_a_map_output> , however I’m not keen on complicating my projects in that way. I want a typical Therion user to be able to pick them up without having to know about environment variables and tex. And then I noticed this entry in the wiki https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tips?s[]=tex <https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tips?s%5b%5d=tex&s%5b%5d=map#map-image_and_c ustom_legendbox> &s[]=map#map-image_and_custom_legendbox This suggests to me that it may be possible to retain the use of map-image simply by defining multiple \maplayouts and presumably they are both invoked in the same pdf output However I have just tried several variations of renamed \maplayout in conjunction with a map-image, and I can only ever get either the ‘layout map-header’ to plot with map-images, or a custom \maplayout without map-images. A renamed \new_maplayout never plots. So is there something missing from the wiki entry, is it misleading, or am I missing something? Ngā mihi Bruce

I've been adding text and in the thbook p26 under text "<rm>, <it>, <bf>, <ss>, <si> ▷ font switches" They all work apart from <ss> which as far as I can tell, does nothing? What is it mean to do? Therion 5.4.3 on Debian thanks Andrew

code tex-map - some tokens I cannot get to work
by Andrew Atkinson 26 Sep '19

26 Sep '19

I need to split up the scale bar, north arrow, legend and header information on a survey I'm doing To do this I think that I have to use tex-map, which works fine for the scale bar, north arrow but I cannot get any of the legend tokens work layout combined legend on code tex-map \def\maplayout{ \formattedlegend \northarrow \scalebar \legendbox{10}{20}{NW}{\\scalebar} \legendbox{10}{20}{NW}{\northarrow} \legendbox{10}{20}{NW}{\formattedlegend} } endcode endlayout So in the above I get a scale bar and north arrow in the bottom left from \northarrow \scalebar, but \formattedlegend does not do anything nor does \insertlegend or \legendtitle the \legendbox lets me control where they are I also tried \iflegend(\formattedlegend)\fi But this gives a therion: error -- pdftex exit code -- 256 Anyone got any ideas? Woops missed: therion 5.4.3 (2019-02-01 on debian thanks Andrew

BUG? Thin line in colour fill
by Andrew Atkinson 26 Sep '19

26 Sep '19

Just been doing the final checks on my survey, and found a thin line that should not be there in the colour file see http://wotcc.org.uk/__Therion/ThinLineInFile.png generated by http://wotcc.org.uk/__Therion/ThinLineinFileth2.png A bit of investigation shows that the lower right station (1) of the line is surface and the upper left is not surface (station 1.1) not sure if this is actually related as I needed a quick fix so. Deleting them solves the problem, but that is not really a good solution see http://wotcc.org.uk/__Therion/NoLine.png and http://wotcc.org.uk/__Therion/NoLineth2.png Therion 5.4.3 on Debian Raw data is at http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/svn/CheddarCatchment/Bagpit/Bagpit/ version 409 has the line it is fixed in version 410 (sorry the head is only available on line, but the full data set is downloadable using an svn client) thanks Andrew

map-tex - controlling the size of the bounding box
by Andrew Atkinson 25 Sep '19

When using things like \legendbox{-6}{100}{SW}{\northarrow} The box that is put the legend box is reasonably large, so the north arrow cannot be put that close to a survey. Is there a way of controlling this? thanks Andrew
