[therion-users] THerion 0.2.9 fails to compile with g++3.3
by Wookey 17 Jun '03

Therion doesn't compile with g++3.3 which means it is (partly) responsible for holding back the Debian transition to gcc3.3. I don't understand C++ to an embarassing degree so I post the error here in the hope that someone who does can explain what might be wrong: Looks like it seems to think some standard library function is missing? g++ -c -Wall -D_GNU_SOURCE -DTHLINUX -g -Wall -O2 -o thdata.o thdata.cxx thdata.cxx: In member function void thdata::insert_data_leg(int, char**)': thdata.cxx:1223: error: no matching function for call to std::list<thdataleg, std::allocator<thdataleg> >::insert(std::_List_iterator<thdataleg, thdataleg&, thdataleg*>)' /usr/include/c++/3.3/bits/list.tcc:88: error: candidates are: std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*> std::list<_Tp, _Alloc>::insert(std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*>, const_Tp&) [with _Tp = thdataleg, _Alloc = std::allocator<thdataleg>] /usr/include/c++/3.3/bits/stl_list.h:831: error: void std::list<_Tp, _Alloc>::insert(std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*>, unsigned int, const _Tp&) [with _Tp = thdataleg, _Alloc = std::allocator<thdataleg>] thdata.cxx: In member function void thdata::set_data_fix(int, char**)': thdata.cxx:1642: error: no matching function for call to std::list<thdatafix, std::allocator<thdatafix> >::insert(std::_List_iterator<thdatafix, thdatafix&, thdatafix*>)' /usr/include/c++/3.3/bits/list.tcc:88: error: candidates are: std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*> std::list<_Tp, _Alloc>::insert(std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*>, const_Tp&) [with _Tp = thdatafix, _Alloc = std::allocator<thdatafix>] /usr/include/c++/3.3/bits/stl_list.h:831: error: void std::list<_Tp, _Alloc>::insert(std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*>, unsigned int, const _Tp&) [with _Tp = thdatafix, _Alloc = std::allocator<thdatafix>] thdata.cxx: In member function void thdata::set_data_equate(int,char**)': thdata.cxx:1718: error: no matching function for call to std::list<thdataequate, std::allocator<thdataequate> >::insert( std::_List_iterator<thdataequate, thdataequate&, thdataequate*>)' /usr/include/c++/3.3/bits/list.tcc:88: error: candidates are: std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*> std::list<_Tp, _Alloc>::insert(std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*>, const _Tp&) [with _Tp = thdataequate, _Alloc = std::allocator<thdataequate>] /usr/include/c++/3.3/bits/stl_list.h:831: error: void std::list<_Tp, _Alloc>::insert(std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*>, unsigned int, const _Tp&) [with _Tp = thdataequate, _Alloc = std::allocator<thdataequate>] thdata.cxx: In member function void thdata::set_data_station(int, char**, int) ': thdata.cxx:1731: error: no matching function for call to std::list<thdatass, std::allocator<thdatass> >::insert(std::_List_iterator<thdatass, thdatass&, thdatass*>)' /usr/include/c++/3.3/bits/list.tcc:88: error: candidates are: std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*> std::list<_Tp, _Alloc>::insert(std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*>, const _Tp&) [with _Tp = thdatass, _Alloc = std::allocator<thdatass>] /usr/include/c++/3.3/bits/stl_list.h:831: error: void std::list<_Tp, _Alloc>::insert(std::_List_iterator<_Tp, _Tp&, _Tp*>, unsigned int, const _Tp&) [with _Tp = thdatass, _Alloc = std::allocator<thdatass>] make[1]: *** [thdata.o] Error 1 make[1]: Leaving directory /home/wookey/survex/therion/therion-0.2.9/src' -- Wookey -- Aleph One Ltd, Bottisham, CAMBRIDGE, CB5 9BA, UK Tel +44 (0) 1223 811679 work: http://www.aleph1.co.uk/ play: http://www.chaos.org.uk/~wookey/

[therion-users] New WEB adress.
by Stacho Mudrak 22 May '03

Hello everybody, we've probably now found the final place, where therion will stay. The adress is: http://therion.speleo.sk Pying our own 2nd-level domain became too expensive in Slovakia. I hope, now the file transfers will be fast and without errors. Best regards, S.

[therion-users] 0.2.10
by Stacho Mudrak 15 May '03

15 May '03

Hello everybody, yesterday I've finally finished version 0.2.10. You can download it from the web site. There is a huge amount of bugs fixed, some nice improvements in xtherion. If your previous data will not work with 0.2.9, you can try running "perl makeconvert2.pl" in your data root directory. (data command was renamed to centerline). Configuration file syntax has changed a bit (projection has to be specified via -proj option). Documentation is included in source code (can be compiled using "make doc"). Now you also do not need to do make in three steps, just "make" will compile also xtherion and thpdf (also on Win32). Best regards, S.

[therion-users] Therion 0.2.9 installed in Debian
by Wookey 22 Apr '03

22 Apr '03

OK guys, After resolving a could of build problems there is now versions 0.2.9-3 in Debian unstable so anyone should be able to apt-get it. However looking at the build daemon logs it seems we have problems on some architectures: http://buildd.debian.org/build.php?pkg=therion s390 and powerpc failed to compile a working therion (fails at the ../bin/therion --print-xtherion-src) command. I'm not sure why this should be, but you can see the various build complaints which it would be a good start to fix - some of those are likely to be causing trouble on other architectures. Do we think 0.2.10 is going to be noticeably better in this respect? I'll start vuilding packages anyway, as I said I would. There are various Debian test machines we can use to try and track down the problems. Once we get a version that compiles on all 10 architectures then therion should move to the 'testing' distribution after 10 days. You can check out the current status here: http://qa.debian.org/developer.php?login=wookey and here: http://packages.qa.debian.org/t/therion.html Wookey -- Aleph One Ltd, Bottisham, CAMBRIDGE, CB5 9BA, UK Tel +44 (0) 1223 811679 work: http://www.aleph1.co.uk/ play: http://www.chaos.org.uk/~wookey/

[therion-users] TeX paths
by Wookey 10 Apr '03

10 Apr '03

Debian does not really like to use environment variables to make applications run so the little script that does: #!/bin/sh THERION=${THERION:-/usr/share/therion} MPINPUTS=${MPINPUTS:-.:$THERION/mpost:} TEXINPUTS=${TEXINPUTS:-.:$THERION/tex:} export THERION MPINPUTS TEXINPUTS exec /usr/bin/therion.bin "$@" before running therion is something of a bodge. A better solution was to set the compiled defaults correctly (they are already in fact) for finding things in /etc and /usr/share/therion and to install the metapost and TeX macros in the right places for TeX and Metapost to find them. So, I asked on a list and was told that I should put them in subdirs in /usr/share/texmf and then run texhash to update the index. So I have installed the metapost macros in /usr/lib/texmf/metapost/therion/* and the TeX macros in /usr/lib/texmf/therion/* and run texhash, which has indeed updated /usr/lib/texmf/ls-R However this seems to work fine for the metapost stuff but not the TeX stuff. When I run therion on the example jsv dataset I get the output below. I'm hoping one of you teX experts can tell me what's wrong. I assume that whichever bit of TeX is involved isn't using the ls-R file to find therion.tex, but something else. I tried reading the kpathsea docs and the kpsewhich debug options to understand what goes on but it's all too complicated! I need to know which bits of TeX config I should be dealing with and where the config is stored. This is on a plain TeTeX installation, which so far as I can tell is the only option you get on Debian (I have jadeTex and PDFtex installed too). Does the bit of info at the end mean that I have to tell pdftex somehow how to find the therion.tex file? [therion-users] Packaging patches for 0.2.9-1
by Wookey 25 Mar '03

25 Mar '03

I'm getting a few errors during the Therion build which I think merit changes to the Therion source. (I've run out of time today - maybe tomorrow for these) There are also a number of patches I've made which should probably go in the original. I'll present them here for you to say if you don't like some of them. Updated doc/HISTORY Add -g -Wall for c and c++ compiles and -O2 for final build Manpages for Therion, xtherion, thconvert, thpdf, eps2pdf (done in SGML) - do you want to add these to the main tarball? A diff for all this is attached if you want to apply it. The manpages need to be run through docbook2man to generate final man pages. Files with no newline at the end (this produces warnings from various tools): doc/HISTORY AUTHORS INSTALL And all the thbook .TeX files. There is a spurious src/index.html file that I don't think is supposed to be there. Hope this is useful.
