Things are a little bit complicated... "trip" and "file" are different objects. "Actual trip" is the default trip data attached to a new file. Changing its parameters just creates a new trip section in a file, applied ONLY to all new legs. So, a single .top file may contain several trips (with different declinations, dates, teams, comments and so on). "Trip" command is used to change the parametres of any previously created trip. The bad thing is that you can't create a new trip in the middle of to a .top file or change the leg where the trip begins. Then, post-editing of trips could became a nightmare. You can easily monitor trip structure of a file looking into .txt export. My solution is to avoid at all .top files containing more than a trip. Of course, you must create a new .top file for any branch and/or day. Or maybe, even for any "scrap", when sketch became too complicated. Anyway, I'm aware Beat was working to a new version of PocketTopo with a lot of changes. splay on an separate layer in a dxf file

Hi, is it possible to sort splay shots in a dxf file on a separate layer? Like the centreline legs that marked with the surface flag. (centreline_surface Layer) Flag "splay" leave the splay beside the centreline legs on the same centreline layer.

PocketTopo Trips

Thanks Andrew, that is a great tip. The whole "Actual Trip" and "Trip" thing in PocketTopo has never made sense to me. I sort of figured it out when learning to use it by studying the exported file structure. Your comment has just made it fit into place for me. Bruce

Topparser declination and projected elevations

I always leave the elevations to last. Have just discovered that Topparser is not working for me when it comes to producing projected elevations. Not sure if it is because; 1. Topparser is not using the declination from the top file to adjust bearings when it produces projected elevation xvi's, or 2. I have been too clever, and my habit of entering <decl correction> = declination + <therion plan rotation> in PocketTopo has got the better of me! I suspect number 2 is most likely as Andrew seems to have done a pretty good job. Either way, unless a field for 'plan rotation' is added to Topparser, projected elevations are not going to work for me. As on the http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php/paperless page I have been following this approach (that I came up with). * PocketTopo stores the declination (and trip information like the date and the surveyors etc) that is set at the time a shot is received with that shot, and this association cannot be broken. If you subsequently change the declination (or other information), it only has effect for future shots. The declination is added to the compass bearing for the purpose of producing the sketch. So, if you enter an erroneous declination and take some shots, the drawing will be permanently skewed. * This effect can be used to advantage if you want to make sure the text in your 2D pdf maps will be aligned properly when the finished map is to be rotated. Enter a declination into PocketTopo that equals <declination> + <rotation>. The effect of this is to ensure that the xvi sketches produced will be oriented the same as the finished map, and so text -align variables will match the orientations of the finished map. The downside of this approach is that the coordinates of the stations stored in PocketTopo will be completely arbitrary. (So far I have not taken any notice of the coordinates in PocketTopo - if you accept this I don't think there are any other ramifications - but I might be wrong) Bruce

Colour-preview above not able to be changed

Hi Does anyone have a work-around for the unresponsiveness of 'colour preview-above'? I can change the colour preview-below, both monotone, and, as in the example below, colour. However regardless of what I try, the colour preview-above is always black. In the example below, the preview-above outline should also be yellow-brown. Ideas? select / unselect export map with and without offset

Hello, I don't understand the use of select/unselect. I want to produce 2 export : one map without offset, and another one with offset. So I have defined in my survey "caviteMEGEVETTE" the 2 maps : map planGeneral planSuperieur break planInferieur break endmap map planGeneralDecoupe planSuperieur break planInferieur [0 -100 m] below break endmap In my thconfig file, I specify : ### Plan en un seul morceau (no offset) select planGeneral@caviteMEGEVETTE export map -projection plan -o ../plan.pdf -layout mon_plan unselect planGeneral@caviteMEGEVETTE ### Ces lignes concernent un plan en 2 morceaux (with offset). select planGeneralDecoupe@caviteMEGEVETTE export map -projection plan -o ../planDecoupe.pdf -layout mon_plan_decoupe unselect planGeneralDecoupe@caviteMEGEVETTE But the first export have the offset map... I tried to add an unselect to all the id of map definition, but the result is still the same. The unique solution is to comment alternatively each block "select - export - unselect" and compile both separatively. What is the way to generate the both export in the same compilation ? 3d Animation from Therion

Hi I have some people trying to create a high quality 3D animation from Therion surface and model data or outputs. They don't seem to be able to use Aven or Loch for their purposes. They need 'open 3D' obj files. They use Cinema4D, Maya and cd4. Any ideas to produce the 3D compatible raw files? Bruce

Hardening flags cause build failure

I fixed a bug that was stopping the default hardening flags in Debian actaully being used. It turns out that using them breaks the build, specifically setting -Werror=format-security: from the log: c++ -c -g -O2 -fstack-protector --param=ssp-buffer-size=4 -Wformat -Werror=format-security -Wall -DTHLINUX -O2 -o thpoint.o thpoint.cxx thpoint.cxx: In member function ‘virtual bool thpoint::export_mp(thexpmapmpxs*)’: thpoint.cxx:657:89: error: format not a string literal and no format arguments [-Werror=format-security] The code is: if (!thisnan(this->xsize)) { //if (double(int(this->xsize)) != this->xsize) // sprintf(buff,"%.1f",this->xsize); //else // sprintf(buff,"%.0f",this->xsize); fprintf(out->file,utf2tex(out->layout->units.format_human_length(this->xsize))); } I don't understand this beyond the issue being that a format string really should be supplied, otherwise it's a security risk, and it's not being.
