Re: [Therion] Point altitude/deph, Help !
by Xavier Robert 28 Jun '22

Hi all, I think I have found a trick. The other Xavier led me to the right tracks, thanks a lot ! Finally, this is quite simple with the point altitude, and no need to change anything inside the : - If we use the point altitude only with the option -align, we get the altitude - If we use the point altitude with the options -align and -value [-1004 m] where 1004 is the altitude of the main entrance, we print the depth only for that point (Do not forget the " - " before the altitude of the main entrance), and thus, we do not erase the classic point altitude. The only (small) limits are : * If the main entrance changes, we need to manually update ALL the points that print the depth. But that should not be be everyday, and not a big issue to do that. * the symbology of the two points is the same. I will have a look for a way to modify that and let you know if I find a trick (If I copy the code of the point Altitude, and call it p_u_depth(expr pos, R, S, A), it crashes...). Cheers, Xav

Updated XTherion editor side panel adjustment

I’m liking the (slightly) new look XTherion. Just one thing, with the smaller and finer linework and points, and I guess a not so large 4K monitor, shaky hands and poor eyesight, I’m finding it quite hard to reliably get my cursor close enough to existing points for it to snap onto them. I expect there may be a variable I could edit in XTherion.ini (or is XTherion.new.ini, there seems to be one of each) that will increase the snapping distance. If so, what is the variable name? (and how to use?) I am sure there are people on this list that are more than a little affected by the invasion of Ukraine. While lucky enough to be far away, I am shocked and am thinking of you, my friends, and how I might help in some small way. Bruce

Therion 6.0.5 more on volume calculations
by Bill Gee 23 Feb '22

23 Feb '22

A neat new feature! Thanks! However, I am reminded of the old adage - A man with one watch always know the time. A man with two watches is never sure. Using a rather simple 50 meter cave as an example, I now get four different calculated volumes. Three of them are at least in the same ballpark, but one is about three to four times greater than the others. Compass = 5931.1 cubic feet Loch LRUD volume = 3754.1 cubic feet Loch Maps 3d = 6106.8 cubic feet MeshLab = 586.9 cubic meters (20697.9 cubic feet) MeshLab is an outlier here. ======== Bill Gee

Water areas produce heavy PDF files

Hi, Does anybody knows why water areas result in such CPU intensive PDFs? And more importantly, does anybody have any idea on how to solve this? Regards, Rodrigo Severo

Thanks Stacho That did the trick. therion-setup-msys2-3f4366c If you don’t mind doing some more fiddling, I wouldn’t mind the control being a bit bigger. On my 4K 27” monitors, it’s a bit fiddly trying to grab it. It’s a shade under 1mm x 1mm in size. I suggest at least doubling the size, by dropping the lower edge and moving the right edge to the right. It looks like a problem with hidpi display and tcltk 8.6.12. I am not having the problem with an external monitor normally attached to my notebook. If I use a build-in display or my android tablet, same problem appears. I have tried to fix it in 3f4366c, could you please verify, whether it works now? S. Hi, Thank you for the very useful "volume statistics" tool! I was wondering: how is the volume computed in Loch? Looking at Loch-generated models in Paraview, it seems to me that Loch creates the volumes by joining every station to the splays radiating from the previous and next stations, creating a sequence of pyramid-like solids, like in this schematics: [image: image.png] (black=centreline shots, dashed grey=splay shots). Does each of these "pyramids" contribute to the total with its own volume? With this method, the mesh would contain intersecting volumes. To simplify, if we imagine a cone with apex at the stations, the cones intersect: [image: image.png] How does the computation of the total volume deal with the intersections of the cones? Does it somehow avoid the double-counting coming from the intersecting regions? "added support for cave volume calculation (Tools → Survey statistics)"Awesome addition.Could someone maybe explain what the difference is between 3D and LRUD envelope?I get how 3D probably works based on the rendered 3D view of the cave. But how can the LRUD thing work when I only use splays instead of LRUD? Does it just pick some particular or average splay and use it as a LRUD measurement? The results are so vastly different. Sometimes much bigger (one of my simple caves) sometimes much smaller ( a pothole).

The new look (v 6.0.5) XTherion editor seems to be missing the small button control that allows resizing of the side panel. I often like to make it quite large when editing objects with a long options string. Is resizing of the panel still available and I'm just not seeing it, or is it perhaps a bug? Thank you for the update! [image: Screenshot 2022-02-20 at 16.58.27.jpg] The new "volume" statistics are really useful!
