Thanks Stacho That solves the problem. Looks like version 5.5.4 and 647dcea both manifest the same problem at my end. It occurs for both plan and extended elevation pdf outputs. For these ‘failures’ I have the number set to 10, and in some cases the number of explorers, surveyors or cartographers is less than 10. Trial and error with some variations suggests that the syntax ‘statistics explo|topo|carto|copyright <number>’ will always fail if <number> is greater than the actual number of any one of those properties. The failure appears to be untrapped and stops processing unceremoniously. I think that if there are only 3 surveyors, but <number> is >= 3, then there should not be any error condition, and the output should be produced listing the 3 properties. So it seems like a bug to me. They all seem to result in what seems to be an untrapped error, and truncating the therion.log file in random locations. For example this is what I have been trying… statistics topo 10 statistics topo-length hide I checked with the previous recent version, 552f923 and after removing all the carto-count statements, I get the same behaviour, an untrapped error. So I think the carto-count is working perfectly and I have just unearthed a different problem. Having left the problem for a few days (and rebooting a number of times) I thought I’d try my ‘top 10’ statistics layout (as in the attached LayoutStatisticsReporting.thc file). I ran my thconfig a number of times. For a given input, the point at which the log file truncates seems to be consistent. The file log5 is what I get with a successful compile with all of the statistics. The file log1 is what statistics <whatever> 10 gives me. Thinking that the scraps reported near either side of the log file truncation might be associated, I commented them out of the map. The file log04 shows what happens then – the truncation just occurs a few more characters along the file. Converter for Compass to Therion
by Roger Schuster 20 Dec '20

20 Dec '20

Hello cavers, for those of you who either use the "Compass" cave surveying package together with Therion or need to convert legacy data from Compass there is something to try out. I wrote a little converter that transfers Compass raw data (*.dat) to Therion (*.th). You can find a description and the source code at <https://github.com/rogerschuster/compass2therion> and a compiled package for download at <https://github.com/rogerschuster/compass2therion/releases/download/v1.0.0/c…> Please give it a try, I hope it is useful for some of you! Best regards, Roger

Gradient out of range - does not process
by Andrew Atkinson 19 Dec '20

Hello I thought that there was a way I could stop the out of range error, but I cannot now find it. It would be an a useful command to have as instead of negative readings we got readings between 270 and 359, which although strange is valid. In survex readings over 90 are just a warning, which seems far more sensible, the problem is that I don't think that I can enter the data in survex either without conversion as I don't think that degrees minutes and seconds can be entered. So I'm stuck with data that I have to convert, for different reasons depending on whether I use survex of therion. Here is part of the file, I have quiet a few survey centreline data normal from to clino compass tape ignoreall 1 2 1:08:25 83:37:40 17.88 2 3 00:00:00 -:-:- 0.055 3 - 02:39:00 266:49:00 3.206 3 - 314:28:20 299:57:45 2.02 3 - 16:32:25 312:13:20 1.246 3 - 06:22:35 84:16:10 1.17 3 - 309:16:45 84:15:50 1.846 3 - 55:00:10 122:44:50 0.77 3 - 325:02:55 249:55:45 1.014 3 5 359:30:50 338:07:25 16.674 5 - 306:52:00 262:23:20 1.402 5 - 59:29:30 343:51:30 1.076 5 - 305:08:25 358:34:30 1.274 5 - 315:26:20 90:51:35 1.632 5 - 29:12:45 77:01:35 1.891 5 - 19:55:50 33:02:00 3.071 5 - 348:22:35 31:08:25 3.707 5 - 350:35:20 15:31:25 4.292 5 - 13:29:35 15:31:20 4.202 5 - 12:24:50 30:20:20 7.919 5 6 17:29:05 31:28:50 6.444 6 - 307:24:35 149:47:35 1.738 6 - 344:44:40 149:45:30 1.426 6 - 77:05:35 149:36:05 1.523 6 - 306:05:00 314:12:10 0.84 6 - 353:47:50 94:54:35 2.091 6 - 00:42:00 219:31:40 5.446 6 - 18:33:50 230:03:05 4.468 6 7 12:26:05 241:13:00 4.272 .....etc Anyone got a solution that does not mean I have to convert in a spreadsheet? thanks Andrew

Italian translation update
by Fra 18 Dec '20

18 Dec '20

Hello everyone, I recently started using Therion and I noticed that the Italian translation has some typos and it was probably not updated for quite a while. I updated the /thlang/texts.txt file, is there a way to get permissions to push it with git? Or else can I just send the updated file to anybody so it can maybe be included in the next update? Thank you! Best regards, Francesco Bellamoli

Trouble compiling latest therion code in Linux (Ubuntu 20.04)
by rsev＠protonmail.com 16 Dec '20

16 Dec '20

Hi, I'm having trouble compiling the latest therion code in Linux (Ubuntu 20.04). First I had to manually create the following symlinks inside /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu so ld would stop complaining about missing libraries during the linking process: libvtkIOLegacy.so -> libvtkIOLegacy-7.1.so libvtkFiltersHybrid.so -> libvtkFiltersHybrid-7.1.so libvtkFiltersCore.so -> libvtkFiltersCore-7.1.so libvtkCommonCore.so -> libvtkCommonCore-7.1.so libvtkCommonDataModel.so -> libvtkCommonDataModel-7.1.so libvtkCommonExecutionModel.so -> libvtkCommonExecutionModel-7.1.so Now, after an apparently clean compile, I'm getting the following errors at the end of "sudo make install": installation error: could not write /usr/local/bin/therion installation error: could not write /usr/local/bin/xtherion installation error: could not write /usr/local/bin/loch There are no therion, xtherion and loch executables on the build directory to be copied. Any ideias what could be wrong? Regards, Rodrigo Severo Sent with [ProtonMail](https://protonmail.com) Secure Email.

Feature request - control over sort order for carto and copyright similar to explo and topo
by Bruce Mutton 11 Dec '20

11 Dec '20

Stacho Looks like it is counting scraps correctly. The following statements… statistics carto all statistics carto-count hide (or on or off) … work perfectly. One thing that does seem to be a problem however. The syntax… statistics <explo/topo/carto/copyright> number … is giving me problems. Have not yet tested statistics copyright-count. I presume it will be OK based on the success with carto-count. Bruce From: Therion <therion-bounces(a)speleo.sk> On Behalf Of Stacho Mudrak Sent: Friday, 20 November 2020 09:19 To: List for Therion users <therion(a)speleo.sk> Subject: Re: [Therion] Feature request - control over sort order for carto and copyright similar to explo and topo Hi Bruce, I have tried to implement your feature in the latest commit (it will take a while until win installer will be available), I was able to count by scraps - hope this is OK. Could you please check, whether it works as expected? S. On Mon, 16 Nov 2020 at 09:48, Bruce Mutton <bruce(a)tomo.co.nz <mailto:bruce@tomo.co.nz> > wrote: >From the Therion Book… • statistics <explo/topo/carto/copyright all/off/number> or • statistics <explo/topo-length on/hide/off> ▷ display some basic statistics; if set to off, team members are sorted alphabetically; otherwise according to their contribution to exploration and surveying (M, A; default: off) …and explained a little more completely here <https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/faq?s%5b%5d=statistics#why_do_peoples_names_…> ie on = sorts by length and shows the length with each person’s name; hide = sorts as above and does not show the lengths; off = sorts alphabetically and does not show the lengths. I have a feature request (unless we can already do this?). We have the option of sorting exploration and survey team members by the length of the passage centrelines that they have contributed to. Can we do a similar thing for scrap authors and copyrights? ie statistics <carto/copyright-count on/hide/off> where: on = sorts by number of scraps and surveys by a particular author, or number of scraps and surveys by a particular copyright, respectively, and displays the numbers; hide = sorts as above and does not show the numbers; off = sorts alphabetically by surname and does not show the numbers. This last setting matches the current behaviour for carto, and as I posted recently, the sort order for copyright seems to be unpredictable. Why do I want this feature? Because regularly I draw 98 scraps, and someone else will draw 2, and their name will be displayed in front because of the spelling of our names! Logic of the plan partion of Vajsablova map: It is very simple. Indivual layers around whole black cave contour are just previews below with offsets (and *color preview-below 0*). To show interconnections between layers itself and individual layers to the cave contour is a little bit more difficult. I used very simple scraps contained just one "double point": *scrap plan_1-6 -projection plan -scale [-128 -1989 1689 -1989 0.0 0.0 46.1518 0.0 m] point 0.0 0.0 station -name 1.6@vajsablova -subtype fixed point 0.0 0.0 map-connectionendscrap* Then I created maps for each of them: *map plan_con_1-6 plan_1-6endmap* The I created maps for showing interconnections between layers (example for two maps): *map plan_con_1-6_1-6 plan_con_1-6 plan_con_1-6 [12.5 0 m] noneendmap* *map plan_con_2-1_2-1 plan_con_2-1 plan_con_2-1 [0 15 m] noneendmap* And finally I created whole map with "just interconnections maps" on the top and individual layers (with the same offsets ofcourse): *map plan plan_con_1-0 [0 17.5 m] none plan_con_1-6_1-6 [-12.5 17.5 m] none plan_con_2-1_2-1 [-12.5 2.5 m] none plan_con_2-11_2-11 [-12.5 -10 m] none plan_con_2-13_2-13 [-12.5 -25 m] none plan_con_2-17_2-17 [-12.5 -45 m] none plan_stara [0 17.5 m] below plan_prezident [-12.5 17.5 m] below plan_pod-prezidentom [-12.5 2.5 m] below plan_podavania [-12.5 -10 m] below plan_zabudnuta [-12.5 -25 m] below plan_zabia_vytrvalost_170 [-12.5 -45 m] belowendmap* The first point is different, because it has not interconnecton to the other (higher) level but just to the cave contour... The offsets used for showing interconnections between layers are manualy computed as diferences between layers to the contour ofsetts: *map plan_con_1-6_1-6 plan_con_1-6 plan_con_1-6 [Ax-Bx Ay-By m] noneendmapmap plan_con_2-1_2-1 plan_con_2-1 plan_con_2-1 [Bx-Cx By-Cy m] noneendmapmap plan plan_con_1-0 [Ax Ay m] none plan_con_1-6_1-6 [Bx By m] none plan_con_2-1_2-1 [Cx Cy m] none ...* Yes it is posible to do it different ways, but this by this way you can see part of survey line pointing to stations which are not on the partial maps also...
