***UNCHECKED*** Re: scrap without stations keeps the original sketch in Topodroid

> There MUST be one or more point station in each scrap except section scraps. So I had always assumed Martin, but NOT TRUE. As I mentioned in another post (it has not come through yet) I have just received a 5km long Therion project with nicely drawn map. There is not a single station in any of the scraps, and yet the scraps are aligned with the survey network. I plan to dissect it over the next few days to see how it works. There is an xvi with stations and left right masks, so maybe that does it?? Bruce

Re: [Therion] Therion .th2 blank screen

Actually, the advice I should have given is: Try double clicking on the object list (object 62 in the image below). That will bring the object to the centre of the screen. Unless there was a problem with the drawing area extents, in which case I don’t know what would happen. There was no lines outside of the normal space. But auto adjusting the drawing area seems to have worked. Caveatron with Therion
by Bruce Mutton 05 Oct '19

Is Caveatron something that could integrate with Therion? Open source and uses plain text files, so it seems philosophically compatible. http://caveatron.com/ https://github.com/Caveatron http://www.caveatron.com/documents/Caveatron_Paper_Proceedings_ICS_2017.pdf Bruce

Formats for GIS and bbox error
by Andrew Atkinson 01 Oct '19

GIS is getting more and more powerful, and looks like it is doing what we try to do in programmes like aven and loch. So I can take the output from therion like the pdf and get it into QGIS, but I have to manually do it bbox seems to give the promise of coordinates however export map -format bbox gives the error therion: error -- thconfig [16] -- format not supported -- bbox If this does what I believe it should it would help. However, I was hoping that some of the more common formats could be supported, web research shows that goepdf exist, so hopefully this could be easily implemented. Although I'm not sure QGIS supports it, but here are pages describing how to convert it to geoTIFF and geoJPG getting these directly as an export would be even better. I also see that therion exports models and maps as shapefiles (esri) but again they seem not to have the coordinates in either? Am i missing something? Sorry I'm, just starting on this journey and already seem to be going round in circles thanks Andrew

code tex-map maplayout
by Bruce Mutton 01 Oct '19

01 Oct '19

Following Andrew’s questions about code tex-map and not being able to get \formattedlegend to work, I have again experimented to try to resolve some issues I have been having. I hope you managed to get \formattedlegend to work Andrew. I did some experimentation and did not have too much difficulty in getting it to plot in a customised \maplayout. One insight I got from Audrey’s post is that \input th_legend will do almost the same thing as \formattedlegend – the plot just does not have a title. That will be useful sometimes. I don’t think I understand tex, tex-map or \maplayout well enough to be able to provide any insight beyond what has already been given however. On a similar vein, invoking a custom \maplayout code tex-map \def\maplayout{ … } causes any layout map-image specifications to silently fail. I am aware that there is a work around, as described in the wiki <https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tex?s%5b%5d=tex&s%5b%5d=map#changing_the_loo k_or_layout_of_a_map_output> , however I’m not keen on complicating my projects in that way. I want a typical Therion user to be able to pick them up without having to know about environment variables and tex. And then I noticed this entry in the wiki https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tips?s[]=tex <https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/tips?s%5b%5d=tex&s%5b%5d=map#map-image_and_c ustom_legendbox> &s[]=map#map-image_and_custom_legendbox This suggests to me that it may be possible to retain the use of map-image simply by defining multiple \maplayouts and presumably they are both invoked in the same pdf output However I have just tried several variations of renamed \maplayout in conjunction with a map-image, and I can only ever get either the ‘layout map-header’ to plot with map-images, or a custom \maplayout without map-images. A renamed \new_maplayout never plots. So is there something missing from the wiki entry, is it misleading, or am I missing something? Ngā mihi Bruce
