"\legendbox" "\loadpicture" and absolute paths
by rowena 14 Mar '21

Hello, I am using the "\loadpicture" capability in "\legendbox" constructs to include map sections, elevations, etc. It all works nicely on my PC where I am using relative paths to the pdf files. My club has a desire to archive the map data for posterity - ie if my pc dies or I go walkabout, the map data should still be available so that others can add to the maps as they are extended. I would prefer to have the images included using relative pathnames, rather than absolute pathnames, so that future explorers can download the map data and extend it, without having to duplicate my file hierarchy. How can I include relative paths in the \loadpicture functionality? Thanks, Rowena

Import a scrap into another scrap (or th2-file)
by torstein finnesand 11 Oct '17

Hi fellows, Sometimes I realize that two scraps should have been one (for instance scrap A in A.th2 should have been a part of scrap B in B.th2), in particular when it's difficult to join them. It's easy to insert the xvi file into the scrap B file. But I have to draw it again. Is there any workaround here? Torstein Finnesand Norway

North Grid and Mag

Dirk I have posted this on the wiki, but not tested. http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php/metapost#special_symbol_examples Bruce _____ From: Dirk Peinelt [mailto:dirk.peinelt@t-online.de] Sent: Thursday, 9 June 2016 7:35 a.m. To: 'Martin Sluka'; Bruce Mutton Subject: AW: [Therion] Therion Digest, Vol 126, Issue 7 Hi Martin, Bruce, the definition may be published to the wiki. I'dont know if the code is effective. (I've not used the A-D Pens.) I combine this compass rose with a creation date in the map-header (/currentdate). A date variable is not present in metapost. If the CS is not set, the declination is Zero. Also if the declination is Zero, the northarrow is a Nmag arrow: North grid/true rotate the whole plan with the north arrow. (merid. Conv.?) A small change. I also am mildly frustrated that colours in plan do not match elevation. Your solution sounds like night mare to edit subsequently however. Maybe better approach would be to work on a graded map-fg colour that changes appropriately based on altitude of nearby stations and maybe point altitude or dimensions for plan. And a simple gradation for elevations. To date i have been using similar approach to Footleg. Bruce Sent from my Samsung device, hence the typo's

New complimentary software: PEAR PHP Class library File_Therion
by Benedikt Hallinger 02 Jul '16

02 Jul '16

Hi there, i just wanted to inform you that since some time i am working on a PHP class framework to parse/generate therion files with PHP. I initially need this to export data in therion format from the austrian SPELIX system, where austrian cave data is centrally collected. Since i thought that a PHP class framework for therion file structures would probably be of broader use, i made it public as a PEAR project. Some days ago i released the second public release (0.2.0) with basic centreline and survey support and (i think) all important structures present (however not all of them do something right now, thus the alpha state). The rabbit example is parsable and writable again with core features (like centreline). I think it would be useful to list the packages home at the therion wiki page: http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php/contrib:complimentarycaveapps File_Therion package home: http://pear.php.net/package/File_Therion/ (contains link to sources and in the future documentation; APIdoc there is currently broken but will be fixed soon) With best regards, Beni Hallinger Höhlenverein Hallstatt-Obertraun / Austria

Really bad idea?
by Marco Menchise 28 Jun '16

Hello. I like to have cave maps colored by altitude. I think color is an important piece of information, especially in plant layouts. As far as I know, Therion is able to color on scrap basis only. Because I also like to have the same color in the same piece of cave either in elevation and plant map, I usually split scraps at the same borders in both projections. This is quite cumbersome and time consuming. Also, there's no practical way to do such a split when trying to draw on a touch screen while hanging up from a rope.. So I'm proposing a solution: is it possible to split scraps offline based on altitude? I'm thinking about a script which takes a (series of) .th2 file as its input, and generates another .th2 file containing no scraps deeper than, say, M meters. Scraps with stations whose vertical distance exceeds M should be split in two or more scraps. Areas, lines and other symbols should be connected (if possible) across scraps. Using a script like that, one could push M around to zero and get a cave filled with something like a color gradient, which could be wonderful. Is that a crazy idea? ;-) Marco

Updated KML exports and other changes
by Владимир Георгиев 13 Jun '16

Hi Lately I updated the KML map and model exports to include more information like the cave depth and length, map-comment, entrances and better titles. They also include the map or survey structure so you can turn parts of the map/model on or off in Google Earth. I spoke with Bruce Mutton about these and he gave me some nice ideas and also tested the exports. There is a list of these and other Therion and XTherion changes here https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion/wiki/Changelog I wrote them down to keep the list more clear. Again if someone wants to test the changes I would be thankful for comments. The compiled Windows apps can be downloaded here https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion/wiki And the code is also published in the forked repo if someone want to recompile it. https://github.com/vldgeorgiev/therion Vlad

Therion on Mac El Capitan
by Philippe Vernant 08 Jun '16

Hi guys, Does anyone runs therion under Mac OSX El Capitan. I can run xtherion, but it does not want to open the files, there is no way to get them clickable. I’ve tried the homebrew version and also compiled it myself but the results are the same. Any idea ? Cheers, Phil
