Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV
by Bruce 19 Oct '15

19 Oct '15

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

Compiling Therion projects from Notepad++
by Footleg 08 Jan '15

I find having multiple thconfig files open so I can compile different parts of my large cave system project very useful. So I was investgating how to run Therion from Notepad++ (my preferred text editor). This is how I got it working: I wrote a 2 line batch file containing these commands: cd %1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Therion\therion.exe" %2 Saved to somewhere on disk, and then call it from Notepad++ using the Run command, as follows: On the Run menu in Notepad++, Select the 'Run' item, and enter the command as follows: "C:\Personal\Caving\Therion\compileTherion.bat" "$(CURRENT_DIRECTORY)" "$(FILE_NAME)" (But using the path to where you saved your batch file). Save the command (I called it 'Compile Therion' and gave it the shortcut CTRL+T). Now with any thconfig file open in a tab in Notepad++, I can compile that project by pressing CTRL+T, or by selecting 'Compile Therion' from the Run menu. You can create multiple thconfig files in the same folder on Windows, by giving them any filename you want with the extension .thc or give them no extension at all. That way all the files will be listed in the 'Open File' dialog from the compile tab in xTherion. Next I'll see if I can get my batch file to open the output PDF automatically in Foxit Reader :) But that will be less general because I need to pick a PDF filename which can vary between my thconfig files. wxWidgets 3.0.0
by Olly Betts 14 Jun '14

I've been fighting to get loch to work with wxWidgets 3.0.0. The first obstacle is that they now enable __WXDEBUG__ mode by default, so misuses of the API result in warning dialogs popping up. I've attached a patch which fixes that, and updates a couple of places where deprecated methods are used. This doesn't get you a fully working loch though - starting loch and loading a file seems to work OK, *if* loch was compiled with optimisation. Starting loch with a file specified on the command line segfaults in the first call to gluScaleImage() in lxData.cxx, though it works when run under gdb or valgrind, so I guess there is a subtle timing issue (and that this might not happen on all machines). There are also more uses of deprecated methods, most notably using an implicit wxGLContext is now deprecated. I tried to update that one, but things seemed to crash a lot - I suspect the underlying problem noted above needs addressing first. I've been testing on Debian unstable (which has packages of wx 3.0.0). Cheers, Olly

5.3.14
by Stacho Mudrak 01 Apr '14

Hi everybody, yesterday I have updated xtherion a little bit. "Edit->Hide inactive scraps" should work now as well as right clicking on point or line invokes context menu. If you have some idea, what else should go to context menu or how items there should be arranged, please let me know. For windows users: I have upgraded bundled TclTk to 8.6 (in fact, only 8.5 features were needed), but I had to compile it my self. I hope, there will be no major issues. Regards, S.

th2 files don't change after loop closure
by Tomek Chojnacki 26 Feb '14

26 Feb '14

Hi, After I closed a loop in a cave the background image (centerline from xvi file) changed, but all "drawings" (survey station points and walls lines) stayed in place. Does anyone have an idea why it happens and how I can change it? Thx in advance, Tomek

Wish84
by Markus Boldt 25 Feb '14

25 Feb '14

Hi, what I want to ask is: since I use Win7, every time I start Therion first there comes a message that WISH84.EXE should start. And I see, I must allow it, otherwise therion don`t starts. What is that? And is it possible, if it must be, that there is an approach that therion starts without that message? Markus

revise extends
by Bruce 20 Feb '14

20 Feb '14

Michael and I have held off venturing into extended elevations for many years, but it seems that now might be the time. Have been browsing the last 7 years of forum posts on this, and so it is with some trepidation. We have a cave system that now has a variety of often travelled circuits and through trips, and so we envisage having perhaps two or three or more extended elevation projections (maps/scraps) as route guides. ie -proj extended:1 -proj extended:2 -proj extended:3 etc. A number of the passages will be included in more than one map, and the nature and location of the 'extend xxx' statements in these common passages will likely be different for each projection/map. At the very least, we do not want the existence of an extended drawing for one survey prejudicing the creation of a completely different extended drawing for the same survey (in keeping with the Therion principle of do it once, use it many times). My long time (but untested) idea for this is to keep all the surveys with the default 'extend right', and then at the time of compiling, include a file full of revise statements to tweak he various surveys to extend left, right, ignore etc to suit the particular extended drawing to be compiled. I have a simple one survey cave that I thought I would test this idea on, and it seems already my idea is unravelling. I had hoped to use a revise block for each survey as below to insert the required extend statements at compile time. Unfortunately I see that I can amend the survey properties (in this case the title), but not the stations/shots. revise hunters@HuntersCave -title "Hunters Cave - Revised title" #above single line works, but multiline as below causes error. unknown command - extend extend left 1.7 extend right 3.17 extend hide 3.21 #3.22 endrevise Then I thought perhaps I could use one revise statement per station/shot; revise 1.7(a)hunters.HuntersCave extend left but this brings up a therion error -- INDEXHunters.th [49] -- object does not exist -- 1.7(a)hunters.HuntersCave I can verify the station exists and is named as such, because it is labelled that way in the pdf output and the aven 3d model So, is there a trick with the revise syntax for surveys or stations that I have missed? Or am I trying to stretch it's capabilities too much? Or is there another way to manage multiple extended survey network shapes for various extended drawing projections, rather than having the extended survey shape fixed by the original survey definition? There are about 170 surveys in the real project and growing, so we would rather not keep two sets of files or manually edit them each time! Bruce

Problems with Execution - I have the answer :-)
by Markus Boldt 09 Feb '14

09 Feb '14

Hello, the problem happens, if I use a stick as medium for fetching the Pockettopo file and then the File from Therion to the stick will not be written. Let I fetch the TXT-File from a drive on the computer it works as before with Win XP. Another problem is now fixed to. That Therion works proper, I must start it in administrator-mode. Otherwise the compilation don`t works but interestingly it looks like it has worked without any error indication by the first time of compilation after starting therion (Geen, OK). If one starts compilation a second time without any changes therion "says" red, error. But again without explanation in the log. All with Win 7 professional FYI Markus
