Therion 5.4.2. potential bug
by Michael 09 Jan '19

Hello, Excited to see the new version being available, as not everyone is IT-savy enough to build it. Have installed (after removing 5.4.1.) and tested it on Win7. Seems to work fine, but – Producing a KML file for GoogleEarth results in the cave map being displaced towards NE by 100 meters or so. When I re-install Therion 5.4.1., the displacement is gone and the map is where it should be. Perhaps a glitch or change in the way coordinates are calculated? Regards, Michael. Android emulator
by Bruce Mutton 06 Jan '19

Has anyone used an Android Emulator on Windows to view or edit TopoDroid or SexyTopo files? My desire is to be able to view such files on any device that can process a Therion dataset, once they have been incorporated into the overall project. I see there are lots of them out there, but I may as well start with something that a Therion user has already successfully used. These two look reasonably interesting; ARChon <https://archon-runtime.github.io/> Bliss OS <https://blissroms.com/> Recommendations? Bruce

changed definition of drawing of centreline
by Bruce Mutton 05 Jan '19

05 Jan '19

Hi Interested in the change <https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/examples?do=diff&rev2%5B0%5D=1546628211&rev2 %5B1%5D=1546628298&difftype=sidebyside> to the line survey (centreline) examples in the wiki that Martin just made (I'm up for a modest amount of metapost learning). I can follow what the new more complicated metapost is doing, and can understand that it might be better practice to do it that way. But is there no place for the more direct and simpler 'draw p' approach? Or did it not work? (I have not tested them). Perhaps both versions could be listed on the wiki, with some comment about pros and cons or why one approach is better than the other? Bruce

A bunch of symbols needed
by Bill Gee 04 Jan '19

Hello everyone - I have recently taken on the task of managing a survey project for a highly commercialized cave. Roughly speaking, about half of the cave is tourist adapted and the other half is wild. In total, my best guess is something around 2000 meters of cave. The existing map was made around 1960 to 1962. It was a good map for that time but is badly in need of update. We are going to resurvey the whole cave from scratch. The old map will serve as a reference for place names but otherwise will not be used. For the tourist parts of the cave I am going to need a bunch of symbols. Before I go to the trouble of defining them myself, I want to ask if anyone has already created them. If so, I would like to utilize some "best practice" ... also known as "plagiarism"! :-) "On Station" has symbols for many of these items, but I do not see them called out in the Therion Book. I was at the cave a few days ago. I think I will need symbols for the following items: Paved trail Tiled floor Bridge Hand rails Boardwalk - Raised walkway over a man-made lake Wood benches Artificial light fixtures Stairway Man-made dams Display cases Midden Does anyone have any of these already defined? If you are interested, there is a Web site for this cave. https://starkcaverns.com/ Thanks! -- Bill Gee
