scrap flip horizontal - some symbols are wrong
by Bruce Mutton 19 Jul '17

19 Jul '17

I'm doing some drawing of extended elevations, and have noticed that some symbols do not respond appropriately when the scrap they are in is flipped (horizontally). Line arrow is one of them - the arrow head swaps ends in the flipped scrap - it should not. Using reverse is a workaround if the scrap is always shown flipped, but if it is flipped in some maps and not others (say, using revise) then this behaviour becomes a problem. I recall there are other anomalies that I discovered some years ago, but not sure if I posted or not. See the embedded image. One is text strings, <left> remains <left> when it is flipped, and perhaps is should instead become <right>? Another was joining of lines, which just behaved badly. There are probably other symbols, and I imagine there might be similar issues with flip vertical. However most of the time flip horizontal is just fine. Bruce

Person data type with more than two names
by Bruce Mutton 15 Jul '17

15 Jul '17

Some of our cave surveyors have more than two word names, and previously I have had mixed success getting their names reported correctly by Therion. Some worked, some did not. Therion Book says of this data type: person ▷ a person’s first name and surname separated by whitespace characters. Use ‘/’ to separate first name and surname if there are more names. So although this seems a little ambiguous to me, it works for three word names, but not always for four. Many combinations result in an error -- invalid name format -- "Bruce van/der/Mutton" So by trial and error… These are OK: -author 2017 "Bruce Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce/Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce van/Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce van/der Mutton" But these are not: -author 2017 "Bruce/van/Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce van/der/Mutton" -author 2017 "Bruce/van/der/Mutton" Rather than testing exhaustively, I’m wondering if anyone can shed light on this. Is the condition as simple as ‘only one of the spaces between the names should have a /’? I have only checked what Therion reports in pdf outputs, and not for example html or sql outputs. I have not yet checked 5 or six word names. Bruce

view several caves in 3D

Hi guys, I have several caves in the same area, and I would like to see them all in 3D. I have a .th file that have the links to all the cave.th and so I can compile to get the 3D model of all the caves, but, can I compile each cave independently and then join them all up in one 3D viewer, loch for example ? I’d like to pick the ones I want to see in 3D and not to have to recompile each time. Thanks, Phil

Therion Theory - scrap and map definitions
by Bruce Mutton 11 Jul '17

11 Jul '17

A little while ago I explored the effects of different ways of relating scraps and maps to surveys, and to the files that contain them. I came up with the attached text, which I might get around to turning into a wiki page sometime. There are links to some examples already available via the wiki. Before I wiki-ise it, I'd like some feedback, or criticism, as appropriate! Is it helpful? (I think so) Footleg, I plagiarised your page, just a little. Also, if Danilo Magnani or Will Urbanski are still listening, or if someone knows how to contact them, I'd like permission to put on the wiki the project samples they posted to this forum some years ago. Those are named Complesso - Buc di V, and DDC - Radio Collar Cave. Bruce

Hi Phil An output file cannot as far as I am aware simply be combined with another output file which I think is what you are asking. You can produce different output files showing different caves by using 'select' commands in your thconfig file and choosing which ones you want to output at any one time But adding one .lox file to another or one .3d file to another post compilation, not possible I think. Im resolve a problem with a simple hack...1- duplicate topodroid scrap with topodroid survey.sql file now we have more than one scraps with same draw.2- split a cave into small scraps on locations near to the stations and just wall around them.3- remove not needed points, lines, areas and etc.4- now we have a project with all of stations and more than one scraps with draw. After that metapost works good and export done without any errors but for now a scrap line intersects itself warning occurs and i look for solution for resolve it. This is a best simple way i think for split a sketch and your drawing...Thanks, Saeid. Above it are buttons for selecting different parts of overall th2 file. Select the particular scrap by that button and check on map window if everything of that scrap is selected. If not check the line number of endscrap command of that scrap. There is a button "Move to" just bellow of window with th2 structure. geographical reference is not associated with table bug

Curious I am having the problem I described about 4 years ago on this forum. https://www.mail-archive.com/therion@speleo.sk/msg04547.html Not absolutely sure it ever went away, I think it did, it must have, but it is back again. I only get cave-list outputs (.html and .kml) if I don't select any survey for export (ie rely on the default that selects all surveys). If I do select a survey (in this case the only survey at this level of the dataset) before the export statement, I get an empty cave-list.html and no cave-list.kml is produced. I also get this warning, in the (modified) log file statements as below: The coordinate system cs and coordinates must be OK, as the plan.kml is created perfectly in both scenarios. . #################### end of cavern log file #################### done calculating basic statistics ... done processing extended elevation ... done processing references ... done selecting export objects ... done writing ../Output/NiagaraSurveyList.html ... done writing ../Output/NiagaraContinuations.html ... done writing ../Output/NiagaraCaveList.html ... done writing ../Output/NiagaraCaveList.kml ... Can we invoke multiple tex-map \maplayouts for each exported map output?
by Bruce Mutton 02 Jul '17

02 Jul '17

Is it possible to use multiple tex-map \maplayout definitions to arrange the predefined standard Therion Header (\legendcontent {.}) and other objects and labels on the page? The code and image below compile without error, and show the sort of thing I am trying to do. It looks like only one \maplayout definition can exist, and calling it multiple times results in the predefined standard header being overwritten, such that it is not output, and subsequently called \maplayouts are similarly overwritten. I want to be able to add notes and objects (scalebar, north arrow, contents of a plain text file) to the map output incrementally, without having to put them in a single layout. Ie Because most projects have several caves and dozens of map possibilities, it is not practicable to redefine a complete \maplayout definition that includes the predefined header (many lines of code times dozens of instances) for each map. Or is there some other way to achieve this? Bruce layout LayoutMapArrowGames code tex-map \def\maplayout { \legendbox {50} {50} {c} {\northarrow} \legendbox {75} {25} {c} {\northarrow} \legendbox {85} {50} {ne} {\the\legendtextsize\ss {Plan View}} \legendbox {85} {25} {ne} {\the\legendtextsize\ss {Elevation View}} \legendbox {85} {65} {ne} {\the\legendtextsize\ss {North Arrow NOTES}} } endlayout LayoutMapArrowGames layout LayoutMapNotes code tex-map \def\maplayout { \legendbox {85}{75} {ne} {\the\legendtextsize\ss {EXPLORATION NOTES}} } endlayout LayoutMapNotes layout LayoutMapThisCavePlan map-header 100 100 nw # predefined standard Therion Header, not output due to layouts below copy LayoutMapArrowGames #top of this list IS output (as in image below) copy LayoutMapNotes #next one(s) down is not output endlayout LayoutMapThisCavePlan
