"\legendbox" "\loadpicture" and absolute paths
by rowena 14 Mar '21

Hello, I am using the "\loadpicture" capability in "\legendbox" constructs to include map sections, elevations, etc. It all works nicely on my PC where I am using relative paths to the pdf files. My club has a desire to archive the map data for posterity - ie if my pc dies or I go walkabout, the map data should still be available so that others can add to the maps as they are extended. I would prefer to have the images included using relative pathnames, rather than absolute pathnames, so that future explorers can download the map data and extend it, without having to duplicate my file hierarchy. How can I include relative paths in the \loadpicture functionality? Thanks, Rowena

Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV
by Bruce 19 Oct '15

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

Joining old and new surveys

Yes it is, very easy to use in most cases. >As I checked, Compass .dat file is small subset of Therion?s survey and centerline structure. Very easy to convert it in a plain text editor. One always has to remember, however, that Compass natively stores all linear measurements in feet and decimal feet, not in metres. This is the case however the data is inputted. I have accidentally ended up with some alarmingly long caves before remembering this! Graham

MacOSX error and solution: ImageMagick after upgrading from Mt.Lion to Mavericks
by Martin Sluka 23 Feb '15

To generate Thbook with all samples is necessary to convert pdf files from samples directory. But in Maverick or Yosemite there is error when installing ImageMagick by Brew: Why is ImageMagick trying to load JPG coder at /usr/local/Cellar/imagemagick/6.8.8-9/lib/ImageMagick//modules-Q16/coders/jpeg.la? Why the double slash after ImageMagick// ? I came across this issue too when upgrading from Mt.Lion to Mavericks. I found an issue in homebrew's github repo. The fix that worked for me was: $ brew uninstall imagemagick $ brew install imagemagick --build-from-source m.

And another very unusual problem

This the beginning of .th file survey radavc_20141231_ms_a input radavc_20141231_ath2.th2 #input radavc_20141231_aEe.th2 map radavc_20141231_aM.map -projection plan radavc_20141231_aSP1 radavc_20141231_aSP2 break radavc_20141231_aSP2 endmap comment map radavc_20141231_aME radavc_20141231_aSE1 endmap endcomment centreline When I tried to compile it I received next error: "missing survey before map command“ The problem was in line: input radavc_20141231_ath2.th2 because -th2 file from some reason end with line: scrap xxx without line endscrap so all lines after input were used as part of scrap. m.s.

Re: [Therion] Joining old and new surveys
by Steven Tucker 20 Feb '15

Thanks for the help with this. The long term plan is to redo the entire survey, but for now a simpler solution was needed. Bruce's suggestion of creating new centerline data from the old survey gave me an idea. After already redrawing the survey on therion and adding scale etc, I created a single fake shot from the entrance to the new point. Works perfectly and very quickly. Steven

extended doesn`t works in the right way
by Markus Boldt 20 Feb '15

Hi to all, I have following problem with a very small cave and I doen`t find the mistake. The cave has only one shot. The map as plan works ok. But the extended presentation doesn`t works. The shot has a plus clino, but Therion does it to minus AND the whole cave on top. What is wrong? As attachment there are the *.th, *.th2 and my config file. I am sure someone will find the mistake. Regards Markus Working under WIN7, Therion 5.3.14

wall coloring
by Marco Corvi 19 Feb '15

19 Feb '15

this is for kevin's request. not a solution, just a proof of concept ... (without important details) to color the wall you can re-define l_wall with a code metapost in the layout, passing the R,G,B values after the path. next set the layout color map-fg altitude to have the altitude stored in the scraps. (see sample thconfig) finally have therion write the parent scrap R, G, and B, after the wall path, and use 0,0,0 when it writes the scrap. (see howto) i'm attaching also the output cave.pdf. ... i'm not sure how useful wall-coloring may be ... anyways i leave up to therion developers whether to add a layout option to color wall, map-fg, or both. cheers, marco

Therion Requests

Colour by Altitude Is it possible to colour by altitude along the wall edges only ? I do not want the scrap filled with colour, just a colour edging along the walls, either inside or outside and preferably able to define the colour width. Perhaps add a feature to the colour fill function to allow the user to specify complete fill or edge width plus inside/outside ? Cross Sections I have a major cave system in Survex with lots of splays that help define cross sections and I am in the process of converting it all to Therion again - was not happy with the first conversion due to my inexperience with Therion. Is it possible to create a cross section within Xtherion by selecting the station and only the splays that define the cross section ? That is, either the software automatically grabs the splays within a certain threshold perpendicular to the centreline or the software allows manual selection of which splays to use. My current method of manually creating cross section data subsets is time consuming. Thanks, Kevin
