Therion's Loch features (incognito) on NZ TV
by Bruce 19 Oct '15

19 Oct '15

Loch model of 39 km cave features in this TV news clip at 3:47 (Me carrying two packs on the opening still, and stuck at 2:00) http://www.3news.co.nz/Deepest-cave-discovered-in-our-backyard/tabid/817/art icleID/330973/Default.aspx Centreline data has been processed for the last few(?) decades with a home-made unix application that uses proprietary routines, so will only live while Jonathan is with his current employer. As you might have guessed, an 'export to Therion' routine is being worked on. Bruce

Therion hanging after compile
by Jenny Black 13 Jan '15

13 Jan '15

Hi, When I compile therion, it appears to compile fine (assuming I haven't made a mistake!), and the green button on the right changes to green, and says "OK", but then it will hang. It is still running, and using lots of CPU, but I cant do anything with it without killing it. This happens either if I compile by hitting F9, or pressing the "compile" button. The same thing happens if I make a mistake and it doesn't compile, but gives me a red "Error" button. When I restart therion, and load back in my files everything works as expected... until I compile it again. I am running therion from debian (unstable) package 5.3.14-1, but I think this also happened in the previous version. Thanks, Jenny ___ Re-sending this message a week later as it didn't appear to reach the list (though i got no bounce message), apologies if you get it twice.

Compiling Therion projects from Notepad++
by Footleg 08 Jan '15

I find having multiple thconfig files open so I can compile different parts of my large cave system project very useful. So I was investgating how to run Therion from Notepad++ (my preferred text editor). This is how I got it working: I wrote a 2 line batch file containing these commands: cd %1 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Therion\therion.exe" %2 Saved to somewhere on disk, and then call it from Notepad++ using the Run command, as follows: On the Run menu in Notepad++, Select the 'Run' item, and enter the command as follows: "C:\Personal\Caving\Therion\compileTherion.bat" "$(CURRENT_DIRECTORY)" "$(FILE_NAME)" (But using the path to where you saved your batch file). Save the command (I called it 'Compile Therion' and gave it the shortcut CTRL+T). Now with any thconfig file open in a tab in Notepad++, I can compile that project by pressing CTRL+T, or by selecting 'Compile Therion' from the Run menu. You can create multiple thconfig files in the same folder on Windows, by giving them any filename you want with the extension .thc or give them no extension at all. That way all the files will be listed in the 'Open File' dialog from the compile tab in xTherion. Next I'll see if I can get my batch file to open the output PDF automatically in Foxit Reader :) But that will be less general because I need to pick a PDF filename which can vary between my thconfig files. therion 5.3.16
by Martin Budaj 08 Jan '15

08 Jan '15

Hi all, new therion version is available. It's mostly a bug fixing release; see below for details. Most of the contributed patches were also applied or adapted (thanks, Olly & Wookey). As suggested by Wookey, we intend to use some public VCS for development, presumably Github. We'll let you know when the repository is ready. Martin --- Therion 5.3.16 (2014-12-28): therion: * scale upper limit changed to 1:10 * geomag data updated upto 2020 * bugs fixed: - black area displayed instead of some patterns in SVG - broken XHTML output when string formatting keywords are used in map-comment etc. - unescaped special characters in map-comment etc. in XHTML - improved error message when therion can't map custom TeX fonts in MetaPost macros to Unicode - cave depth value in XHTML output - invalid compass/backcompass averaging formula xtherion: * elevation orientation in Compiler map structure loch: * VTK 6.0 support * wxWidgets 3.0 support

Change to Area - blocks
by Torsten Schnitter 30 Dec '14

30 Dec '14

Hi all I have changed the definition from area blocks and inserted a variable "distance" like in the example "AREA BLOCK + density adjust (distance) Stefan Oswald" you can find here: http://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/doku.php/metapost?s[]=area&s[]=blocks&s[]=den… This is working well in the map but there is a little other problem now. Depending on the "distance" (e.g. I use 1.8) the field in the legend for this area is empty now. If I use other numbers I can find a part of a block in the legend symbol or just one small or .... Is there any chance to influence the field or let's say the "filling" of this field independend from the area itself? Does anyone have this problem as well? Is there any solution for that? Thanks for your help, Torsten

Define constants in files
by vladimirg＠mail.bg 27 Dec '14

27 Dec '14

Hi In development languages I'm used to defining various constants values in the files, but I couldn't find such in Therion Have you considered adding this feature? For example I use the cave name in several places in the .th and .thc files. Then for the next cave I usually copy the template and change the name in all the places it is mentioned. This will be easier to do with a constant value that is changed only in one place. Something like this: === in TH files === DEFINE %NAME%='My cave name' survey %NAME% -title "%NAME% cave located somewhereПещера %NAME%..." ... input %NAME%.th2 endsurvey === in THC files === layout ZZZ map-comment "The %NAME% is a very nice cave, etc, etc" endlayout export map -projection extended -output %NAME%-xelev.pdf export map -projection plan -output %NAME%-plan.pdf So you can change the DEFINE %NAME% only at the begining of the file and the value will be reflected when compiling in every place the %NAME% is used. Or am I too picky Vladimir ------------------------------------- Mail.BG: Безплатен e-mail адрес. Joining lines in the map editor
by vladimirg＠mail.bg 27 Dec '14

27 Dec '14

Hi Is there a way to join lines in the map editor while editing a scrap? Not at compile time with the 'join' command but manually. There is a "split line" command in the right-click menu, but not a "join lines" one. When importing data from TopoDroid I end up with a large number of short lines (its hard to draw on the small screen with a finger), so it seems useful to be able to join them. A workaround is to just position the points one above the other, or edit the th2 file directly, but it seems more logical to be able to combine them in one line in the map editor. Therion fails to compile with vtk 6
by Bill Gee 18 Dec '14

18 Dec '14

Hello everyone - This is not a big deal to me because 1) I know how to get around it and 2) I don't use Loch anyway. However, for those to DO care, I thought I would post some information. The final few lines of the compile run are listed below. This is from 64-bit Fedora 21 and Therion 5.3.15. VTK version 6.1.0-18.fc21 is installed using the RPM packages from the main Fedora repository. I had to link the existing vtk directory to the location where Therion's make file expected it. ln -s /usr/include/vtk /usr/local/include/vtk-5.4 Without the link it fails much earlier in the loch compile. Based on this it appears to me that major changes have been made between vtk 5 and 6. Eventually I am sure other people will run into this problem. The workaround is to modify makefile so that it never attempts to compile loch. There is also a change to makeinstall.tcl. Display altitude with more digits?
by Xavier Pennec 07 Dec '14

07 Dec '14

Hi there, For an accurate survey of a cave I need to display altitude labels up to decimeters (in meters but with one digit). The standard display rounds values at the closest meter. does anybody knows how to change the rounding to 0.1 m instead?
