Transparent Labels and Hyperlinks in Labels
by Carl Magnuson 04 Jan '10

These are two features that I would like to make use of and may already be possible, I just don't know how its done. I have played around with custom metapost cide for making labels with a transparent background and can either make a therion label with a colored background or a label with a transparent background but none of the Therion text formatting. Has anybody coded a transparent label for Therion? My second thought is about hyperlinks from within a label. For example one may want to label a significant feature and also include a link to a flickr photo or online video of the feature. This may already be possible by just inserting some Latex code, but I'm not sure what kind of processing Therion does on the label text. Thanks, Carl

Station Label behaviour changed for pdf outputs
by Bruce 04 Jan '10

Hi I've noticed that the behaviour wrt pdf files has changed recently (probably with 5.2.14) It used to be that station text descriptions (examples below) had no effect on pdf outputs, but were displayed in kml outputs. Now I find that in pdf outputs, in the example below, CE75 gets an entrance symbol and the text "Cheops Extension" on all pdf outputs while CE58 is, as previously, not annotated. (kml outputs are unchanged) While I can see that this would be desirable in many circumstances, at the moment I would prefer to suppress the text annotation (and probably, but not necessarily, keep the symbol). I can not see where this new behaviour is described. I like the idea, but I would like to control it. Have I missed something, or is there a secret to manipulating this behaviour? Example survey CE -title "Cheops Extension Cave" -entrance CE75 station CE75 "Cheops Extension" # a symbol and text appears in pdf and kml station CE58 "bones" # text appears in kml only Cheers Bruce

Clarification, Request for 2D output header title option
by Bruce 04 Jan '10

>Unless there is a feature I have not understood an override map title option is perhaps required at export time. >export map -projection plan \ > -layout-title "test override title " \ > -output ./Outputs/FloraCavesPlanMap.pdf Such an 'override map title' should have parameters; UseAlways, and UseOnlyIfNoUniqueTitleAvailable for maximum versatility. Fixed point display in kml model exports Would it be possible to export fixed points (and surface surveys) as well as cave surveys to kml files? Cheers Bruce

Clarification, Request for 2D output header title option
by Bruce 03 Jan '10

03 Jan '10

Clarification, Request for 2D output header title option I have noticed that the 2D output titles that are produced behave more or less like this. # if one 'map' for a particular projection is 'selected', the output map title that is produced uses that 'map's 'title' in the output header. # if more 'map's for a particular projection are 'selected' and there is only one source' survey, the output map title that is produced uses the specified 'source' survey 'title' in the output header. # If there are multiple 'selected' maps and 'source' surveys for a particular projection, then a blank output map 'title' is produced. One way of avoiding the 'blank title' problem is to aggregate either all of the surveys or all of the maps into single entities (survey or map respectively) prior to exporting. This ensures that you have control over what the title will be, but reduces the versatility of the resultant output map or atlas, and so I would like to move away from doing it this way. For example you can no longer use the pdf layers to adjust the visibility of the component cave maps, and atlas outputs are not collated by the component maps. Unless there is a feature I have not understood an override map title option is perhaps required at export time. I tried this with a dataset with multiple caves set up in a modular hierarchical fashion, where all of the surveys and . export map -projection plan \ -layout LayoutMapThisCave \ -layout LayoutMapThisCavePlan \ -layout-title "test override title " \ -output ./Outputs/FloraCavesPlanMap.pdf .and although no errors were flagged it still produced an output with a blank title. (Not that surprising - not a documented feature). Has anyone managed to specify a title for an output that has multiple maps 'selected' and multiple 'source' surveys? Cheers Bruce

Request new header projection display option
by Bruce 03 Jan '10

May I suggest a new layout command to add text to the outputs along the lines of . -projection [<on>|off] . where 'off' is the current behaviour and where 'on' adds the following text immediately under the title; In the case of -projection plan adds the text "plan view" In the case of -projection [elevation xxx units] adds the text "elevation looking xxx units" where units are deg, grad or whatever In the case of -projection [elevation extended] adds the text "extended elevation" This would compliment the optional printing of the coordinate system that I suggested some time ago. Cheers Bruce

Centerline colours in a PDF file (map)
by Torstein Finnesand 01 Jan '10

Hi. I have a simple .th file with centerline data from a cave. The output file is PDF (map), - with the centerline and station symbols. I have no scraps. My problem is how to visualize the shots and the stations symbols in 3 colours in the PDF file: 1. one group of the shots (and their stations) could be default (black) 2. the second group (and their stations) could be red 3. the third group could be blue (with hidden or blue stations). Or better: The group is hidden. I can fix no. 1 and no. 3, the last one by using flag surface in .th file and symbol-hide / symbol-colour in the config file. (The shots are not surface shots, but that doesn't matter.) But how to fix no. 2? Torstein Finnesand Norway
