Basic Question : where did the legs go ?
Good Morning, My name is Ricardo Constantino, and I have just started using Therion / Survex - so please bear with me :-) I am running survex 1.0.39, and therion 0.5.0 on Windows XP. I have a little test survey (both in svx and th files) with 9 stations. When I run the svx file directly in Survex I get a correct 3d file, which Aven displays with the 9 stations and 8 legs. However, when I run the same survey (either as a 3d import or natively in the .th file) the result displays the stations but not the interconnecting legs - even the survex log generated from the therion compilation reads that there are 9 stations but 0 legs ! Even a simple 2, 3 station survey directly in Therion, generates the pdf plan view, but only the stations are marked in the file (there are no lines interconnecting the stations). What am I missing here ? Thanks in advance, Ricardo (www.ENTRADA.tv) BTW : the concepts behind both these applications are great - I just hope I will have a chance to try all the powerfull features ! Thanks guys.

Hi, can you post here your demo data? (.svx and .th) Regards Wolfgang
can you post here your demo data? (.svx and .th) Sure - here goes. Let me know if you need any other file (log etc).

Hi,
can you post here your demo data? (.svx and .th)

By default the centreline is not drawn in the pdf. You have to add some layout information. See attached thconfig file (this should also be somewhere in the therion-wiki). Regards Wolfgang encoding utf-8 source demo.th export map -layout test500 -projection plan -output demo.pdf layout test500 scale 1 500 code metapost def l_survey_cave (expr p) = draw p withpen PenD withcolor (0.1,0.3,0.1); enddef; endlayout
Et voila :-) Thanks Wolfgang for your time with this basic question ! Regards, Ricardo ----- Original Message ----- From: "Wolfgang Zillig" <wolfgang.zillig@web.de> To: <therion@speleo.sk> Sent: Tuesday, August 21, 2007 11:47 AM Subject: Re: [Therion] Basic Question : where did the legs go ?

Is that true? It is not specified in the Therion book... Anyway, I would use the "symbol-hide" and "symbol-show" commands (book p 42) inside the layout section, rather than adding meta-post code. Note that the representation depends on the symbol-set you are using layout blabla ... symbol-show line survey symbol-show point station endlayout Eric.

Stacho and MartinB improved many things from the time the metapost code was needed.

I'm absolutely not up to date with the drawing capabilities of therion. I mainly use "loch" for 3D models. But with that example I can also update my thconfig file. Thanks Wolfgang
This code is even friendlier - thanks. It does need the symbol-set command as you mentioned. This works : layout test500 scale 1 500 symbol-set UIS endlayout It shows the centerline even without the explicit symbol-show which would lead one to conclude that there is a default symbol-show but not a default symbol-set ? This I'm not sure, it is not fully specified in the book, and also the book is not completely uptodate with the implementation... I think that in the default symbol-set, the survey line is invisible... but I know it is visible (as a line) in the UIS set. I don't remember where, but there is a way to print (in pdf) a document with a table of all symbols in all symbol-sets. Eric.

from command line: therion [-h/--help] [-v/--version] [--print-encodings] [--print-tex-encodings] [--print-init-file] [--print-environment] [--print-symbols] btw there is a bug in therionbook (p. 52): • --print-environment . Print environment settings for therion. • --print-environment . Print a list of all therion supported map symbols in symbols. xhtml file. second line should be --print-symbols the xhtml file is attached - open it in your browser m.
Quoting Eric Madelaine <Eric.Madelaine@sophia.inria.fr>:

In the default symbol set - only survey line end marks are shown - therefore it looks, that there are no survey lines (even there they are). Regards, S.
