Ok, can take a look at this, too.
Hmm, it is quite hard to check for dependencies in the source c++ code. I have another idea: Can you send me some typical file which should be compiled with metapost and pdflatex (or whatever)?
There is a set of files for a large project here: http://wookware.org/mulu/mulu.tgz common_layout.th has some metapost code in it. The .th2 files are the ones that describe the lines and symbols use to draw each section. the thconfig file sets which files and styles are used for each dir (try benarat/terikan/ as a reasonably complex and complete example). As I said I'm not sure this is really going to help that much as it is too far removed from Tex to be relevant. I think the tex, mpost and (maybe) texenc dirs in the source are the bit that show what tex and metapost functions are used.
I have seen comments on metafun, too, do you use context?
I don't understand this question. Martin, Stacho?
As I said, the best option is to send me some medium complicated files which should be do-able with the dependencies, and I will check them. Thank
Well that Mulu.tbz tarball is an example. Unpack it. and apt-get install therion. Then cd benarat/terikan therion and watch it process. (You can do therion at the top level but that could take a while). I suppose I could try the same thing with texlive and see what happens. But right now I need to produce some output for an expedition leaving just after xmas. I'll try Texlive once that panic is over. No, as far as I know, there are some macros copied from context, but it is definitely not used. Therion is using: plain metapost plain pdfetex (because of memory requirements) and by default, it has CM and CS (latin2) font mappings

I am not sure, whether they are medium complicated, but here are TeX and metapost files generated by therion. Run: mpost data.mp pdfetex data.tex Regards, S. P.S. OK. I just tried installing texlive and seeing what happened if I processed something with it. I installed the package texlive which gave me: tex-common 0.42 texlive 2005.dfsg.2-4 texlive-base texlive-base-bin texlive-common texlive-context texlive-doc-base texlive-common texlive-context texlive-doc-base texlive-generic-recommended texlive-latex-base texlive-latex-recommended texlive-metapost texlive-pdfetex texlive-pstricks (sopme of these got pulled in by other deps on my system). And when I ran a fairly simple case I got the log file below: This appears to be not working due to missing fonts or something. Clues welcome. My best guess as to the deps actually required is texlive-base-bin, texlive-pdftex, texlive-metapost. P.S. May be it helps, here is listing of all TeX files, we include in therion win32 binary distribution (i.e. all files therion really needs):
[ includes a load of cs* fonts as wellas cm* fonts] OK, it seems that which texlive-base contains cm font it does not have cs font. I can't see anything which obviously does have this (what is cs?). If I change /etc/therion.ini to have tex-fonts raw cmr10 cmti10 cmbx10 cmss10 cmssi10 in it then texlive seems to process caves fine. In fact it barfs in exactly the same way as tetex does by running out of main-memory on one of my larger caves. (and ignoes me when I change main_memory = 1000000 to main_memory = 1500000 in /etc/texmf/texmf.cnf ) still giving the error: TeX capacity exceeded, sorry [main memory size=1000000] But I digress. If someone can explain the font issue in terms of dependencies or changes to therion then I think we have texlive support sorted. CS are central european TeX fonts we use (cs is in fact former czechoslovakia iso country code).

Correct. Then it does not use CS fonts any more.
But I digress. If someone can explain the font issue in terms of dependencies or changes to therion then I think we have texlive support sorted.
There are two possibilities: 1. Comment out line 79 in thtexfonts.cxx and it should no more depend on CS fonts. 2. Add dependency to texlive-lang-czechslovak package (which contains CS fonts). Regards, S.

Is the /etc/therion.ini change not better than changing the code?
2. Add dependency to texlive-lang-czechslovak package (which contains CS fonts).
I am not sure what to do about these dependencies. For general debian use it seems to me that installing partitcular language fonts should be an option, rather than a requirement for everybody (it is an extra 4MB for each language pack). The main reason to include them by default is that some of the example files need them (I presume?). I have currently set the dependencies to suggest: texlive-lang-czechslovak and added info the to the debian readme to explain that you need this package for some of the examples, and to change the /etc/therion.ini back. Can therion recognise new fonts without having to add a line in the therion.ini file? Then it would just be a case of adding suitable langauge packs - that would be nicest, but presumably it has to be configured somewhere. I am not sure if perhaps it should be a recommends: texlive-lang-czechslovak dependency. That way it will normally just get installed for users who don't know what they are doing. How do therion users on debian/ubuntu think this shoud be handled? And can someone at therion-central comment on my post about including the wiki docs - do you want to do this upstream or not? These are the two remaining issues affecting therion 0.4 packaging. They are just needed for correct displaying of some latin-2 characters used in central Europe. If Therion is configured to use CM fonts only, the files containig these accented characters can be still processed and Therion makes an accented character as a combination of base character and accent (if the accent is present in the CM font). However, there are some special typographical rules how some accented character should look like (e.g. t with caron is displayed as t with comma above). So if therion makes a combination t + caron, it just does not look right. If the native CS fonts are used, therion des not need to make composite characters.

This is the correct way if you don't like therion to be dependent on CS fonts. The explanation should be that the fonts are needed for correct displaying of latin-2 characters.

It cannot. We plan to find some unicode fonts to be included in the distribution. Than there would be no external dependency on other fonts or packages.

They would need to change ini file anyway. Martin
