No, as far as I know, there are some macros copied from context, but it is definitely not used.
Therion is using: plain metapost plain pdfetex (because of memory requirements) and by default, it has CM and CS (latin2) font mappings
As I said, the best option is to send me some medium complicated files which should be do-able with the dependencies, and I will check them.
