Sorry, but the dxf produced by therion can't be read by GRASS. I've found a solution : I make the dxf export in therion. After that, I open it with CanvasX, and save it as a shapefile (.shp), that GRASS imports quite well !! I will describe it more precisely in the wiki in a few days !! I am sorry, this is not yet possible. You may export 3D model in DXF format, which GRASS should be able to read. If if does not help. we need to upgrade SQL export.

Real Nice!! Looking forward to see your how-to. Also good to know that there are other GRASS user in this list. Carlos On 12/5/06, Thierry Gonon <thierrygonon@mac.com> wrote:

Unfortunately, I can't use actually loch as I'm working on Mac !! And my current goal is to produce a tool for watershed and area that could be irrigated by ancient qanats (I'm archaeologist). The problem with my method is that the shape files produced by Canvas are all set to z=0... I have some ideas to solve this problem... The problem with my method is that the shape files produced by Canvas are all set to z=0... I have some ideas to solve this problem...
I am currently working on export of shapefiles directly from therion. OK - we are now focused on 2D, but I think exporting triangles only 3D model should not be very difficult to implement. I am just missing some 3D viewer for shapefiles, that I could use for debugging. Do you know some? Is there some easy way how to show 3D shapefile in GRASS? Thanks, S.
Hi Stacho, you can try QGIS - http://qgis.org
From QGIS web page: Quantum GIS (QGIS) is a user friendly Open Source Geographic Information System (GIS) that runs on Linux, Unix, Mac OSX, and Windows. QGIS supports vector, raster, and database formats. QGIS is licensed under the GNU Public License. Some of the major features include:
* Support for spatially enabled PostGIS tables * Support for shapefiles, ArcInfo coverages, Mapinfo, and other .... .... L. Stacho Mudrak napsal(a):

Yes, QGis is a good viewer (and mapcomposer also !!) for shapefiles. It's actually the 0.8preview2 which is available, and may be soon a stable 0.8. But it only works in 2D !! With GRASS, you can view the 3D (or pseudo-3D) datas through nviz... I can give some help if you need... Hello, NVIZ from within GRASS should do the job. Probably easyer to install is the Qgis/Grass for native Windows, but I don't know about the capabilities of displaying 3d shpfiles. I will test it out this evening at home. http://qgis.org/uploadfiles/testbuilds/ Wolfgang Stacho Mudrak schrieb:

Thank you very much for your help Wolfgang, but the files your converter produce are 2D files, so the problem remain the same !! For viewing 3D datas (such as 3D shapefiles), QGis is of no help ! It 's nviz, through GRASS that you have to use, or Paraview, but then you must make an export from GRASS !! I should try to have a look if I have some time.... But I'm not, actually, a C programmer.... But if it's just a path problem for dependencies, I may find some errors... May be next week ??
