Correct pronunciation of loch
I'm giving a talk on therion and I want to know the correct pronunciation of loch. Steelwool
The name Loch comes from German, so we pronounce it l-o-ch (not l-o-k or lock). The final CH is pronounced lika Spanish 'j' or greek chi. SAMPA transcription is [lQx]. Martin On 10/24/06, Philip Schuchardt <ohc@vt.edu> wrote:

Easiest way to desribe this to an english speaker is 'like Scottish loch (or Irish 'lough')'. Not exactly the same as German loch to the purist, but near enough.
