Hi, is there somewhere a list with all the libraries that are needed to compile therion under linux? Or a kind of manual? I just tried "make" but I'm getting errors, so I suppose that I miss some libraries. Greetings Wolfgang
I am not sure, but probably loch compilation does not work by default. List of libraries needed for loch is at loch/README. Regards, S. Wolfgang Zillig wrote:

I had to adapt the path to vtk and remove -lvtkjpeg -lvtkpng -lktkzlib from the makefile. (the terminal was not configured to scroll through so many lines and therefore I did not see the uppermost error) . There were a lot of warnings like: "warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break strict-aliasing rules" during compillation. If needed I can send you the full screen output. I can compile my project but the surface graphic is missing! Only a gray surface is displayed. Is this due to the skipped parameter -lvtkjpeg? Do I need to compile vtk from sources? I've installed libvtk5 and libvtk5-dev (5.0.2-4ubuntu1). Thanks for any help Wolfgang Stacho Mudrak wrote:

Ahh. The linux version of loch has a bug preventing rendering correct texture mapping. I think it has to do with openGL problem factor of 2 texture mapping. The textures dimensions need to be a factor of 2. I'm just guessing that this is the problem. Try to re-scale your overlay to be a factor of 2(1, 2, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128 ... etc). Tell us if it works. I am almost sure this is not the case on Linux system - it was (still is???) a limitation of Win32 OpenGL. But loch does this interpolation internally - it scales every image to a square 2^n pixel size, before it use it as a texture. I do not know where the problem on Linux is - it has probably something to do with Linux OpenGL architecture - on both other platforms (Win32 and Mac OS X), texture mapping works as expected. And it works on Linux also - at home I have NVidia OpenGL driver (with NVidia OpenGL shared library) and there it works also. OK, I will try to install some plain Linux without hardware acceleration and debug it. Regards, S. Philip Schuchardt wrote:

I also have a NVidia card in my computer! Does it help if I send you the output from the compilling?
Unfortunatelly not. It is a bug, that is present also on NVidia machines. Only in some very rare harware/software configurations, it works on Linux also.
Can it be that it has to do with the changed Makefile (removed -lvtkjpeg -lvtkpng -lktkzlib)?
I do not think so - this has nothing to do with rendering. All that has to be done is to add checking of OpenGL return codes to the loch codes to see, where the problem is hidden. But there is no switch for it right now. It needs to be coded. I am sorry for this. Regards, S.

no, that is exactly what I did. My image has 2196x2196 pix and interpolating it 8x results in 17568 x17568 pix and gimp consumed a lot of RAM. Is there a switch to get a more verbose output of therion? Or switching to the development kernel? Wolfgang Philip Schuchardt wrote:

It looks I have found the bug - at least now on my linux it seems to work. The problem is strange - OpenGL on Linux returns very huge number for maximal texture size. If I have limited it to 2048 pixels, it seems to work. Just replace attached lxGLCs.cxx file in your loch sources and recompile. Please let me know, if it still does not work. Regards, S. Quoting Wolfgang Zillig <wolfgang.zillig@web.de>:
Thanks for any help Wolfgang

Reading the OpenGL texture size works for me on Linux. If you have Aven 1.1 to hand, try running it, load a 3d file, and look in the "About" dialog (help menu). On my Linux box, the "System Information:" includes: Max Texture size: 4096x4096 I'm reading that using: GLint max_texture_size; glGetIntegerv(GL_MAX_TEXTURE_SIZE, &max_texture_size); Hmm, what type are m_maxTSizeO and m_maxTSizeS? If they aren't the same size as GLint, then you'll get bad sizes back... Cheers, Olly

Hello Stacho, it seems that it is still not working. But now I also get this here: ** (loch:9451): CRITICAL **: clearlooks_style_draw_focus: assertion `height >= -1' failed One further question: should the linux loch be able to read lox files that were created on windows (at least it is not working here)? For the tests here I compiled the files newly, but I get a smaller file size for the lox file. windows 10.5 MB linux: 4.6 MB Greetings Wolfgang
Hmmm, it should work - at least on my systems it works, but I do not have 64bit machine. I will experiment with OpenGL today and I will try to upload new snapshot also for win32. Wolfgang Zillig wrote:

No idea where does it come from - it looks like it is a problem of reading 32bit files on 64bit system. Do you use latest snapshot on Windows also?
One further question: should the linux loch be able to read lox files that were created on windows (at least it is not working here)?
Yes, as I wrote before, on my system it works.

It looks, you have an old version of therion on Windows. In the latest snapshot - there is 64/32bit bug fix from Philip Schuchardt - which should generate only small files. Regards, S.

there is no hurry, but I tried compiling from the main release 0.5.0 of therion and not the dev snapshot.

I just remembered that clearlooks it the desktop theme that I use. So it might not be important.

I cant tell you which version is used on win as my laptop is again in repair. Next weekend I will bring a win install cd from home (I don't have my one here), and then I have also a running windows again. Greetings Wolfgang

Hi,
is there somewhere a list with all the libraries that are needed to compile therion under linux? Or a kind of manual?
I just tried "make" but I'm getting errors, so I suppose that I miss some libraries.
Use the packages in debian experimental: http://packages.debian.org/cgi-bin/search_packages.pl?keywords=therion&searc... These have been properly debianised. I think there has been a new development release since then so if you want to very latest you'll have to merge that in, but the control files and modified makefiles in that package will show you the changes needed. These packages will be going into debian testing as soon as I get round to it (I was waiting for the stable release that has just occurred). Hi Wooky, I've installed the debs with "dpkg -i --force-architecture" but when I start loch I only get: zillig@joke:~/Desktop$ loch loch: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_gl-2.6.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory whereas grep locates me that file in /usr/lib/ any idea? Greetings Wolfgang

any idea?
Hmm, that is the first library it tries to load (according to ldd /usr/bin/loch). and that resolves to /usr/lib/libwx_gtk2u_gl-2.6.so.0, as you suggested. What does ldd say on your box? That file is from libwxgtk2.6-0 on my machine (debian unstable) The problem may be that the package is built for debian experimental, rather than ubuntu whatever-you-are-using, and something is upset about library versions. In that case a rebuild may fix things: download the source then unpack (dpkg-source -x) and cd into it: apt-get build-dep therion dpkg-buildpackage see if the resulting package works any better? I compiled it from the sources from the debian server, but still the same: gray overlay. Greetings Wolfgang

I can't help here as loch does not run on my machine. I have a new amd64 machine I can try it on, but that has an nvidia card and I refuse to use the non-free driver, so it may not work there either - not sure if the 'nv' driver has the right support?
