Hi folks Is there any possibility to position the map on a different point on the output paper? Or can you resize the output in a way that not so many white spaces around the map is print? I'll try to describe my problem: I'm using: export map -fmt pdf -proj plan ... -layout ... In the layout: size 22.2 18 cm page-grid on I get a paper where a lot of white space is around the map. If I switch on the page-grid I can see the map printed on 24 pages (3 rows and 8 pages each). But if the map would be a bit more in the lower left corner it only would be 2 rows and 7 pages, so in total just 14 pages. Thanks for your help. Torsten
Torsten It looks like you are using these a bit different to the way I do it, so I'll ask to be sure; Are you using 'export map' or 'export atlas'? For export map the cave is positioned in the centre of the page when I do it, and the white space margin is controlled by overlap 0.5 cm (The meaning differs between map and atlas - see The Therion Book). You can modify the cave position somewhat by forcing the page to be a bit larger in one direction using map-header 110 100 nw ie, the title and legend in this example is plotted starting 110% of the original page width to the right. For export map I think the function of size x y cm page-grid on is kind of like a debug feature so you can see how the atlas page tessellation will cut up the map (I think). I do this once my cave map exceeds the size of the page I want to use, and then I switch to using atlas. If you are exporting atlas, then you can control the position of the page tessellation using a layout like... #Set co-ord system and position of map on the atlas tessellation #------------------------------------- cs EPSG:27200 #NZ Map Grid 1949 origin-label 1 A #label type #origin = co-ords of lower left corner of first atlas page origin 2502060 6023650 380 metres Or have I misunderstood? Bruce
Hi Bruce Yes, I'm using export map. "page-grin on" and "size x y cm" is just used for debugging. Attached you'll find my map. As you can see there is plenty of space around the map. May be it's more clear what I mean if you can see it. ;-) I want the map to be more lower left in the same scale. Is this possible in any way? Thanks Torsten Bruce <bruce@tomo.co.nz> hat am 27. HI, try parameter rotate in your layout for example rotate 10 S pozdravom Ing. Michal Danko On Fri, Apr 27, 2012 at 3:08 PM, Torsten Schnitter < torsten.schnitter@netcologne.de> wrote:

Try origin x y z metres This gives you control of the atlas page-grid tessellation position, which is what I believe you have overlaid on your map. The numbers top and side of the page are the atlas page labels that would be produced if you used 'export atlas' in place of 'export map'. X and y give you control of the first atlas page position in plan view. Assign or adjust these numbers to 'move' your cave on the paper. grid bottom grid-coords all will label all the grid line intersections so that you can see where your cave and tessellation are positioned with respect to the coordinate system. page-grid and grid are not the same thing. Page-grid shows the atlas pages positions relative to the cave. Grid shows the coordinate system position relative to the cave. You can control the page-grid label numbering using origin-label <x-label> <y-label> This sets the label for the first atlas page (the position of which is defined by the 'origin' statement). Unless you have some special reason for producing maps with the atlas page-grid overlaid (like planning for future atlas production, or producing a map with grid squares labelled A1, A2, B1 etc like a road map for a city), then I would tend to use 'overlap' and the 'map-header' statements to position the cave on the page, and 'grid bottom' to place coordinate system gridlines on the page. It is simpler. Bruce
Hi Bruce I used "page-grid on" in the layout for map export to check what I'll get with atlas output. As I switched it off again I got what I expected to get. The map is in full size without that space around. On the atlas output I could arrange the map with "origin" as I would like to have it. Btw the same for the map output with "page grid on". Thanks for your help. Torsten Bruce <bruce@tomo.co.nz> hat am 28. April 2012 um 22:02 geschrieben:

Try
origin x y z metres
This gives you control of the atlas page-grid tessellation position, which is what I believe you have overlaid on your map. The numbers top and side of the page are the atlas page labels that would be produced if you used 'export atlas' in place of 'export map'. X and y give you control of the first atlas page position in plan view. Assign or adjust these numbers to 'move' your cave on the paper.
grid bottom grid-coords all
will label all the grid line intersections so that you can see where your cave and tessellation are positioned with respect to the coordinate system.
page-grid and grid are not the same thing. Page-grid shows the atlas pages positions relative to the cave. Grid shows the coordinate system position relative to the cave.
You can control the page-grid label numbering using
origin-label <x-label> <y-label>
This sets the label for the first atlas page (the position of which is defined by the 'origin' statement).
