[therion-users] Therion 0.2.13 Debian packages - testing needed
I've packaged therion 0.2.13 for debian and it's all very slick now as stacho has improved the source a lot. It should also fix the gcc 3.3 problem (old version doesn't compile). The only significant change I've made was to combine makeconvert1.pl and makeconvert2.pl into one command 'thconvert' which makes both the 0.2.6 and 0.2.10 data changes. It'd be good for a perl expert to check that over and make sure I didn't accidentally change any of the logic - It seems to work OK on test cases here. There's only one catch - the new version of therion refuses to output any maps. Given a thconfig file like this: encoding utf-8 source dxd.th source test.th2 export model -fmt survex export map extended -o dxd_extelv.pdf #export map plan -o dxd_plan.pdf #export atlas plan -o dxd_atlas.pdf I get an error "thconfig -- unknown option -- "extended" (or "plan" or "none" - whichever I use). The thconfig file format shouldn't have changed - so is there something something wrong with my compilation or is this version of therion broken? Is it just me? You can get the i386 packages and source at http://www.chaos.org.uk/~wookey/software/therion/ As soon as we get to the bottom of this I can upload 0.2.13 (and therion can stop being one of the 900-odd releas-critical bugs in Debian :-) -- Wookey -- Aleph One Ltd, Bottisham, CAMBRIDGE, CB5 9BA, UK Tel +44 (0) 1223 811679 work: http://www.aleph1.co.uk/ play: http://www.chaos.org.uk/~wookey/

We're sorry - but this format really changed :((( Now the projection is inserted via -proj[ection] switch, not as an argument of "export map|atlas" command. As far as we know - there are only two other people, that are playing with therion now - one is you and the second is one Czech caver (and he started with newer version). So we've considered this change not very serious. There were also other changes in thconfig file format anyway... We're not lucky, when doing such a changes, but doing them later would be much more painfull... Regards, S.

OK. I should have looked at the 'tests' files more carefully. I get it now.

That's fine - I understand we're still at an early stage and changing things will not affect many people. But I do need to know what the changes are so a) I can make my stuff work and b) the Debian packages tell people what the changes are. Did I miss a note somewhere, or another perl script that makes changes? I did read the Thbook and it seemed to still say that that the above format was OK - maybe it's out of date and maybe I misunderstood but if I can't work it out I don't think other users have much chance :-) Did anything else important change? I'll update the docs accordingly and upload 0.2.13-2 shortly. -- Wookey -- Aleph One Ltd, Bottisham, CAMBRIDGE, CB5 9BA, UK Tel +44 (0) 1223 811679 work: http://www.aleph1.co.uk/ play: http://www.chaos.org.uk/~wookey/
changes are. Did I miss a note somewhere, or another perl script that makes changes?
No, I was our mistake. We started the CHANGES file already, but we started from version 12. :(

Yes, it's old. I hope, Martin will change this soon.

From 12 see CHANGES file. Until than - nobody remebers :(((
I'll update the docs accordingly and upload 0.2.13-2 shortly.
Thanks. S.

OK. I added this fix to thconvert (aka makeconvert.pl) so it does all the data-format changes so far in one go. Works OK on datasets here.

Actually it had been partly-changed. I've updated it a bit.

OK- I've just uploaded. Attached is the full debian diff (only 11K)- Only the thbook/ch03.tex and makeconvert.pl patches are likely to be of interest. -- Wookey -- Aleph One Ltd, Bottisham, CAMBRIDGE, CB5 9BA, UK Tel +44 (0) 1223 811679 work: http://www.aleph1.co.uk/ play: http://www.chaos.org.uk/~wookey/
