Re: [therion] xtherion.ini not found
On my debian box: $THERION is not set, even if Xtherion is running (echo $THERION shows nothing) xtherion ini is on ~/src/therion/xtherion/xtherion.ini. No search for xtherion.ini seems to be done in xtherion directory. So, after editing xtherion.ini, I need to move it manually under /etc. Else, Xtherion runs with default values since .ini file is not found. I think it should be made by "make install" automatically Regards, Roman On Thu, 03 Mar 2005 11:44:29 +0100 Stacho Mudrak <s.m@speleo.sk> wrote:
So main concern is wether it's possible to get pop-up strings inactive, may be by clicking some checkbutton or so.
There should be some balloon item in xtherion.ini. When set to 0, pup-up strings should not be visible any more.

You are rigth. I noticed that after editing xtherion, main menu was slower at loading. This seems not to be the case when placed on .therion. But I still think it would be better if this directory would be created by "make install" and xtherion.ini moved accordingly (or environment variable set rigthly) Regards, Roman On Thu, 03 Mar 2005 13:15:11 +0100 Stacho Mudrak <s.m@speleo.sk> wrote:

I will put it in my TODO list.

You are saying that you'd like ./therion.ini to be checked as well as /etc/therion.ini ? That would be sensible. File a bug to remind me to do this. (or even better stacho - you put it in upstream :-)
I can't find neither /etc/therion.ini nor /etc/xtherion.ini. Also, $THERION is not set. I don't realized this until now, because all is working quite fine with default values. Only after editing xtherion I realized that changes where not reflected (kbd encoding and balloons). I guess sarge package installs /etc/therion.ini? What I'd like is to have an install script wich makes what it is supposed to do, i.e, install things in directories where they are supposed to be. Else, you need to say new users not only they need to edit .ini files, but move them too. For a plain caver, it would be annoying to tinker with. For builds from source, no matter which directories hold this files while they are on search path. In a debian package, configuration files are supposed to go under /etc, rigth? So I think it should go like this. However, I noticed that main menu loads slowly with xtherion.ini installed under /etc. Since I don't have tried sarge package, I don't know exactly what happens with it. I'm considering to install sarge on another box after d-i rc3 release, then I could file bugs. Getting therion into sarge would be fine for me. But, even if Debian is quite common among linux distros in Spain, I don't know any spanish caver having installed Linux. I know a few (5-6 individuals?) running Mac. All the others are on windows. In fact, most are IT-allergics Regards, Roman

If you want THERION to be set, you need to set it yourself. That's how environment variables work on UNIX - there isn't really a sensible mechanism for a program to add one when it is installed. Assuming your shell is bash, put this in your .bashrc: export THERION=/path/to/therion This will then be set in any new shells you start. To reread for an existing shell, type: . ~/.bashrc which will run the commands in that file. Cheers, Olly
