Necessary packages to compile Therion on a Ubuntu machine
Hi, Here is a list of packages necessary for compiling Therion on a Ubuntu 16.04 machine: apt install libvtk6-dev libwxgtk3.0 libfreetype6-dev build-essential wx3.0-headers libwxbase3.0-dev libglu1-mesa-dev mesa-common-dev bwidget feynmf libtk-img texlive-metapost It might save someone sometime. The packaged version of therion does of course include this info. 'apt-cache showsrc therion' would show you: Build-Depends: dpkg (>= 1.16.2), debhelper (>= 9), perl (>= 5.5), docbook-to-man, tcl, libvtk6-dev, libwxgtk3.0-dev, libfreetype6-dev, libjpeg-dev, libpng-dev, pkg-config, texlive-base, libproj-dev Build-Depends-Indep: texlive-metapost, imagemagick, ghostscript (and that assumes that build-essential is also installed) Wookey -- Principal hats: Linaro, Debian, Wookware, ARM http://wookware.org/

Though note that this list includes some packages you don't need to build the upstream version - e.g. therion's source tree includes a copy of the PROJ.4 sources but the Debian package patches the upstream build system to instead build against the packaged version of PROJ.4 (so libproj-dev is needed for the package, but not for building the unpatched upstream code). (I'm not sure why PROJ.4 is bundled - you need to have wxWidgets and VTK installed, so having to have PROJ.4 installed as well doesn't seem onerous). Cheers, Olly
Hello, i currently have the following immutable centerline: --------- immutable.th -------- survey immutable centerline -id zug_1 date 2014.11.15 team "Some One" notes team "Some Other" team "PersonWhoDidNot Attend" endcenterline input extensions.th endsurvey -------------------------------- The additional file "extensions.th" could be modified. I have a similar problem with a person going by several names over the years of the project. A person got married part way through, so all early documentation are for Miss A Jones say, then she became Mrs A Smith. I could change them all to be Mrs A Smith but would prefer not too. Others have had nicknames or sometimes extra initials added. Could we have a equate command like equate name"A Smith" "A Jones" "Ann Smith" # the first one being the one used in the compilation. Thus all the statistics for that person become correct. It could also be used to remove unwanted or erronious names equate name "" "PersonWhoDidNotAttend" Cheers John Stevens -----Original Message----- From: Benedikt Hallinger via Therion Sent: Saturday, March 4, 2017 7:07 PM To: therion@speleo.sk Cc: Benedikt Hallinger Subject: [Therion] Revise command: how to remove persons later on Hello, i currently have the following immutable centerline: --------- immutable.th -------- survey immutable centerline -id zug_1 date 2014.11.15 team "Some One" notes team "Some Other" team "PersonWhoDidNot Attend" endcenterline input extensions.th endsurvey -------------------------------- The additional file "extensions.th" could be modified. Many of plain text editors have a feature named „multi-file search“. So one may very easy find and correct mistyped names or comment unwanted ones in all files of a project. m.s.

That's rather missing the point that the names are correct in the data, we just want the ability to merge the totals for more than one name. That caters for both nicknames and name changes. I'm not sure that 'equate' is necessarily the right term here. 'Merge' might be better, but that's details. File a wishlist bug John. Maybe correct data in this way: „Jones A. born Smith“ m.

I think Wookey maybe right, 'merge' sounds like a better term. It also give the possibility of creating a club list of cavers eg. merge name "ABC Caving Club" "Caver1" "Caver2" etc. I Personally do not wish to edit very old source records, as they should closely tally with the original books. It took me quite a while to replace a David with a Dave that got in to one set of data. At least I could do it by caves, then series, then passages, before finally finding the correct file. A 'merge' type statement could be very useful to put key surveyors and then clubs involved especially on larger scale surveys where title box room is frequently limited. John Stevens where is this wishlist located ? never seen it -----Original Message----- From: Martin Sluka via Therion Sent: Sunday, March 5, 2017 1:31 PM To: List for Therion users Cc: Martin Sluka Subject: Re: [Therion] Revise command: how to remove persons later on Maybe correct data in this way: „Jones A. born Smith“ m.

Why is this data immutable? It would be correct to fix the dataset in this case and remove them. I'm not sure that the progranm should be growing features to cater for data revision without actually revising the data. Wookey -- Principal hats: Linaro, Debian, Wookware, ARM http://wookware.org/
The same reason like already told in this thread: the data should reflect otherwise recorded data. In this case tough, the th-file will be regularly autogenerated from a database so it would always overwrite my manual removal. Am 2017-03-05 14:57, schrieb Wookey via Therion:

Right, but in this case they didn't actually turn up, so how is it correct to leave them as listed on the survey team? I, too, like to keep notes original, but when they are provably wrong they are changed (usually with a comment explaining the change from the original notes). This happens regularly for instrument readings, and sometimes for station conenctions. It can happen for team members too. Unless someone wants to propose a general 'revised notes' command, I don't think it makes sense to provide this for team members, but not readings, or indeed anything else. I can see that marking data as 'revised from original notes' might actually be useful (because that effectively makes it possible to show the 'thisa was revised' comments in some kind of UI). Wookey -- Principal hats: Linaro, Debian, Wookware, ARM http://wookware.org/
Both (all?) approaches discussed have merit, and could be considered 'correct' in varying circumstances. We already have a revise statement and a person-rename statement, so lets figure out if they can be used 'as is' for Benedikts purposes, and if not if there is an acceptable change that could be made. I like the idea of merging multiple persons in 'club groups' as was suggested earlier, as for large overview maps this makes the header a smaller more manageable size, without the need for manual edits. I have used revise to change station-names at compile time, where scraps are drawn spanning multiple surveys and -station-names have been used in the original centrelines. Ie https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/paperless?s[]=revise <https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/paperless?s%5b%5d=revise> Also to reuse a projected elevation scrap as an extended elevation (where the projection angle is perpendicular to the passage). I have explored it's use when creating multiple extended elevations of different configuration (left, right, hide etc) from the same centreline data (forget if I ended up using revise for this or not). It can be used to alter map definitions at compile time (according to the Therion Book). So there is already the generic precedent and capability. There must be many other possible uses.
From the Therion Book.
revise Description: This command is used to set or change properties of an already existing object. Syntax: The syntax of this command for object created with "single line" command is revise id [-option1 value1 -option2 value2 ...] For objects created with "multi line" commands is syntax following revise id [-option1 value1 -option2 value2 ...] ... optionX valueX data ... endrevise Context: all Arguments: The id stands for object identifer (the id of an object you want to revise must always be specified). I'm not sure that the progranm should be growing features to cater for data revision without actually revising the data.
I agree with the sentiment that we should resist 'feature bloat', however Therion already has a 'revise' capability. I do not understand it well, and that has been frustrating over time, as there have been more circumstances that I have not been able to get revise to work, than vise-versa. I like the idea of the ability to 'equate' or 'merge' names (maybe 'merge-name' as 'merge' is perhaps too generic a term) and to be able to revise a dataset at compile time to remove names. I image there are valid reasons to want to do this. Bruce
The Therion Book mentions the following option for the survey object: person-rename <old name> <new name> Rename a person whose name has been changed. I always assumed that this was what would be used in situations where someone's name changed or needed to be corrected, but have never tried using it. If it doesn't do what the 'merge' command proposed above would do, then what does it do? Duncan. On 06/03/2017, Bruce Mutton via Therion <therion@speleo.sk> wrote:
