Is it theodolite surveys? Or total station, or… But as I know, there should be min. two reference points with known coordinates to connect such surveys to. Or use special GPS with precision of 1-2 cm. Is it this case? m.

every few years I get data in a land survey format, which often does not use a magnetic survey but a turned through angle (does it have a proper name?) I guess it is not that easy, otherwise this sort of think usually gets done.
