Isn't it the compatibility switch in loch/Makefile? Something as: export MACOSX_DEPLOYMENT_TARGET=10.4
This switch is used by VTK compilation. It means back compatibility with system MacOS X 10.4. The VTK 5.4 was compiled on system 10.5 m.
