[Therion] Hide symbols within certain maps/subsurveys

This sort of thing can be done, perhaps not completely, with surface and
cave centreline component visibility.
There is an old conversation about it somewhere, but I cannot find it just
now.
Something like:
  symbol-hide group cave-centreline     #1. hides all centrelines, incl
station-names - clears the canvas
  symbol-show point cave-station          #2. set up for identifying
cave-stations to show/hide

  symbol-show point station:fixed          #3. actually show/hide
(cave-)stations of mark ...
  symbol-show point station:painted     #3. 
  symbol-show point station:natural      #3.
  symbol-hide point station:temporary #3. 

   #then could carry on to specify surface...
   
   symbol-hide group surface-centreline  # etc.

The lines annotated 1 to 3 work just fine, but I'm not sure I've managed to
get that refined control over both surface and cave centrelines at the same
time.
This is not really what you were asking, but maybe there is a clue.

Otherwise perhaps it can be done using custom attributes for the objects?
It was suggested to me once, but it seemed labour intensive so I never tried
it.

Hi folks,

I have a survey of a cave and its surrounding surface area, including all
the little caves in the area. So you can basically get an overview of the
area, see the surface streams and sinks.

Normally, I want the cave survey to be on its own, showing the cave's
features, passage names, fill areas, boulders, water flow, etc.. But when I
show the area overview, all those features become unimportant, and most
labels should be hidden (only the cave names are important).

When showing an overview though, I still want to show the surface labels,
slopes, cliffs, water flow, arrows, borders, etc.

Does anyone have a nice way to hide almost all symbols within one
map/subsurvey (the cave), while showing them all within other maps (the
surface)? Does Therion have a dedicated way to do this that I missed?
