I have seen this before *on Windows* when:
1. The PDF is locked by a PDF viewer like Acrobat.
2. The .xtherion.dat file is read-only or hidden.

That second one is a real gotcha when copying from a Linux system.

Are you perhaps bumping into a Linux equivalent of one of those?
