I had completely forgotten about this way of doing it, although I used
it for a different reason, therefore, it might not be useable in your case.

In this case I have put cross sections into a scrap (and then a map).
For example HeartbreakHill has a file XSectionsHeartbreakHill.th2 in
which there is a scrap XSectionSP

In the file  HeartbreakHill.th I have then made it a map

map XSectionM
  XSectionSP
endmap

As maps can be displayed or not displayed this could be used to have a
couple of different sets of sections. Goodness knows how hard it is to
manage
