It is sans serif, the default font setting.
It took me a while many years ago to work it out, and I described it here https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/drawingchecklist#points (in the 'code' box)
You will only notice a difference if you set something else first. ie
Point label "This <bf>cave passage<ss> is <si>very<ss> big"

I've been adding text and in the thbook p26 under text

"<rm>, <it>, <bf>, <ss>, <si> ▷ font switches"

They all work apart from <ss> which as far as I can tell, does nothing?

What is it mean to do?
