Ubuntu (or related ones like Kubuntu) is generally the easiest system to
use for someone who is used to Windows or Mac. The system handles most
of the updates and package management for you - keeps things simple.
Based on Debian, but with added simplicity. If you want to keep it
simple, so that it doesn't require a big learning curve, this is
normally the one that gets recommended. If Therion works on Debian, it
should work just as well on Ubuntu.

(Not that I have tested Therion it, but I have used many Linux distros
over the years, with personal preference for KDE based ones like Kubuntu.)

A lot of these allow you to run it from a live CD or USB drive first, to
get a taste for the system without needing to install it fully. Makes it
easy to try a few and see what is preferred. A lot of them let you
switch between Gnome or KDE environments (and sometimes others too). It
really is a case of "suck it and see", but if you want something that
"just works", usually the Ubuntu family ends up being the right choice.
