If survex is installed therion uses the survex loop closure
algorithm. If not it uses its own which is somewhat less sophisticated.

The survex process is mostly documented here (in some very old docs,
but nothing much has changed in the core algorithm):
http://csg.bcra.org.uk/surveynotes.html More details on how instument
standard deviations are specified and used is given in the survex manual.
Not sure if the therion algorithm is documented in detail.

Installing or not-installing survex switches the algorithm. Not sure
if there is a way of forcing one or the other algorithm without doing that..
