The main developers live in New Zealand, Slovakia and the Czech
Republic (are we supposed to call it Czechia these days?). Hidden
Earth in the UK is not the most convenient location for them to
attend. Not sure where Vladimir lives (Bulgaria?).

I suggest that a software conference at next year's Eurospeleo event in
Austria (St Gilgen) might be more suitable, at least for European cavers.

It probably is time to have a decent surveyors gathering again as the
last major one I am aware of was at the 1994 Charmey conference, although
we did get quite a lot of us together for an evening in Brno, and a
very useful discussion at Eurospeleo in Yorkshire last year.

Is anyone inspired to organise a surveying day/software conf at
Eurospeleo next year? http://eurospeleo.at/

That last session (Yorkshire/Eurospeleo) illustrates the main issue
though - there were lots of users there, who can suggest improvements
at a great rate of knots, but almost no developers with the time and
expertise to implement them. This doesn't really help get things done,
although it does help somewhat with direction.

You will notice from
https://github.com/therion/therion/graphs/contributors that the main
survex author is already the 2nd-most prolific contributor to therion
in recent times, so we do not actually have a lack-of-collaboration
problem at all.
