[Therion] Pocket Topo Shot Direction question

Can anyone tell me what the purpose/use is of the menu item in PocketTopo
on the data screen which says either 'Shot ->' or 'Shot <-' ?

I see it set to one or the other on my shots depending whether they were
forward or back shots. But then the shots direction is still indicated
primarily by the station names in the From and To columns. So I am not
clear what this menu item does or when I might want or need to use it?
