There is one very important tip: 

 

When you stop drawing in PocketTopo ALWAYS switch to MOVE tool (arrow).

Yes, been on to that one for some time!

I would add.

 

AND switch away from outline, side or data view to Map view.

 

Sometimes belts and braces are required.
