You would need to redefine the \dopage{} macro in code tex-atlas
section of the layout command, e.g. like this...

code tex-atlas
\def\dopage{%
 ...

Thanks Martin
Great service! That works perfectly, and even keeps in place all the other
customisations I've applied. I think there must be magic involved!
(Don't think I'll be learning tex anytime soon)

So if I add the following code, as I said, it all works fine....
   code tex-atlas
     \atlastitlepages
#adds title page and then map-comments, explorers, surveyors, drafters,
copyright but leaves out cave length/depth

     \insertmaps

     \formattedlegend
#adds legend only if it is turned on elsewhere

What is involved in getting the atlastitlepages to print all on a single
page and also include the cave length and depth? For that matter the legend
as well? I'm thinking that an atlas on A1 or A2 paper would be good for our
larger systems, but would only want to use a single page for all the
peripheral information.
What about adding the copyright data to the left of the north arrow on each
atlas page?

Sorry about all the questions.
Bruce
