Any news about the proposed Labyrinth GUI? Having just been one of 7 expertly inducted into the pleasures of Therion by Andrew Atkinson over the weekend, it became obvious early in the course that a GUI is essential. Drop down boxes to choose parameters would be greatly appreciated. I'd certainly offer to be a beta tester.

XTherion is a GUI, admittedly rather modest. It has reasonably comprehensive dropdown boxes for drawing, though I find it is quicker to type and let the boxes auto complete. There are alternatives in development, topolinux and inkscape. If you are referring to http://labyrinth.speleo.sk/ then, while it is a nice idea, it suggests doing away with the plain text human readable input I think. If that is the case then one of the key advantages of therion would be lost. With plain text users have control of the data, with machine written data users are at the mercy of bugs in the software. Plain text is likely to be a readable file format for quite some time, whereas other (cave survey)formats have become obsolete rather frequently and I expect will continue to do so. Just my two cents. Bruce

I absolutely agree with Bruce. Human readable and editable plaint text format is one of the main advantages of therion. Compare it with XML - so many characters they have no real meaning. You may use Inkscape as a helper editor. You should download Thomas Holder's extensions only. Check wiki for the address. You may use Inkscape features to edit existing .th2 files or create new ones. Only final edit is necessary in xtherion map editor - defining areas and several other features. You may use colors to mark kind of objects for example (areas with closed borders too) and preserve it in svg format. Only at the end you should save the file as .th2. My 2 cents (NZ). Martin s.
