make samples fails with: q-marks/thconfig.2 couldn't open "q-marks/questions.html": no such file or directory
After some faffing I found that every attempt to run <path/to/current/build> thconfig in the samples directores produces a segfault as soon as therion tried to write out a file. samples.tcl doesn't seem to notice that every therion run has failed. That looks like a bug somewhere. Also every therion.log file is empty. I guess therion explodes before writing anything into those, even though I see some TeX output on the screen. Something appears to be badly wrong in that I am getting segfaults, but that the sample-building process fails to notice that seems like it could be improved. Bedtime for today - more soon. Yep, that works - thanks for quick response. Everything now builds OK, although I have some vtk problem when I do it in a pristine chroot. I'll work out what's wrong there. Wookey -- Principal hats: iEndian - Balloonboard - Toby Churchill - Emdebian http://wookware.org/

OK. I fixed the issue (vtk is v5.2 in unstable so Makefile needs to look for /usr/lib/vtk-5.0 or /usr/lib/vtk-5.2). And a number of others to do with the samples dir build dependiencies (ghostscript, metapost). So it all build nicely, however loch just segfaults for me. I have an strace if that helps: http://wookware.org/files/lochstrace it seems to die just after openning the /dev/dri/card0 device any tests I can do to narrow down the problem? (I get the same building against vtk5.0 and 5.2). Wookey -- Principal hats: iEndian - Balloonboard - Toby Churchill - Emdebian http://wookware.org/

If anyone wnats to try the packages I have built they are here: http://wookware.org/files/therion/ I'd like to know if that loch works for anyone else, especially if loch previously worked for you. Or indeed any feedback at all on the packages. I can do a build for debian stable too if needed. Wookey -- Principal hats: iEndian - Balloonboard - Toby Churchill - Emdebian http://wookware.org/

Had was bugging the mailing list about the loch segfault more than a year ago. I never could resolve it, and nobody else could. There was some indication that this might be due to some Intel Graphics card driver problem. Your strace looks very much like mine, and there was this "resource temporarily unavailable" that might be the culprit. Somehow some X capability (DRI) cannot be accessed. Once upon a time everything worked perfectly, but never since then. If you have any ideas how to further debug that I would be glad to hear that. Since I am not a graphics person I have now clue how to fix that. Also, all wx examples and other wx applications worked nicely, so that I am not shure whether wx is used in a wrong way. Maybe valgrind could help, but I havn't done that yet. Best, Martin
Are you able to run loch from gdb and find out source code line where it fails? I have a suspicion, that it may be off-screen rendering stuff that is doing problems. It is initialized when loch starts. On some machines (especially linux with intel graphic cards), it segfaults when I try to render off-screen, but may be on some other, it can not even initialize. Especially when you are able to run all wx open-gl samples. Regards, S. On Tue, May 5, 2009 at 5:47 AM, Martin Luethi <luethi@vaw.baug.ethz.ch> wrote:

I can do a debug build and try that, yes. Will give it a go. (get to test whether I got my DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS pathces right :-)

This is a santa-rosa platform with Intel-everything. I'm using the 'intel' X driver, as opposed to the older 'i810' driver. it segfaults when I try
to render off-screen, but may be on some other, it can not even initialize. Especially when you are able to run all wx open-gl samples.
Can someone tell me how to do the wx tests? I have no idea if DRI is actually working at all on here. (glxgears works - that's all I know to try) I guess if this is a know loch problem then my build may be worth uploading anyway as oit'll work on other hardware? Can someone try it and tell me it's not totally bust? Wookey -- Principal hats: iEndian - Balloonboard - Toby Churchill - Emdebian http://wookware.org/

This is the same case as czech-slovak fonts below. You need (I think) either to add a package dependecy or to comment out font-specific lines in thtexfonts.cxx (as you did for czechoslovak fonts). I suggest adding dependencies for both cs and cyrillic fonts, because it makes it possible to use those languages after standard installation. (Note: the new font and encoding handling mentioned in some previous posts adds another dependency: LCDF typetools. It is not used by default because of this dependency and because it requires some on-the-fly conversions which slow down the therion run.) Martin
