Two extended profiles for same survey
Hello cavers, assume there are survey shots like this 0-1 1-2 1-3 1-4 (the numbers are the station names) forming a cross-shaped survey. I want to draw two extended profiles along the legs 0-1-2 (hiding stations 3 and 4) and 3-1-4 (hiding stations 0 and 2). This means the station names required for the "extend hide" directives are mutually exclusive. Is it possible to work around this problem? Thanks in advance! Regards, Roger
Is it possible to work around this problem?
Yes but no. This is why Bruce (?) recommends keeping your "extend" directives in a totally separate document. You can have survey/subsurvey/subsurvey.th survey/subsurvey/extendv1.th survey/subsurvey/extendv2.th and in subsurvey.th you use: input extendv1.th when you want to use that version. Manual editing of the files is required. Annoying, I know. You can make life easier with a top level file (whole map, not subsurvey) specifying the full set of "extend" commands for all subsurveys at once. Then you only need a single edit to swap out the extended elevation for the entire survey. Unless maybe there is some mechanism I don't know about.
Hi Roger As Tarquin mentioned, it is quite easy, although it may take some work to convert an existing project. I only export one extended profile shape per compiler run, but it might be possible to export multiple profiles per compile - conceptually it should work, maybe there is some detail that complicates things. Full description on the wiki https://therion.speleo.sk/wiki/extend The second option that Tarquin describes is set out towards the bottom of that page. I have one master configuration file that I manually tweak depending on the output and extended profile I want. An alternative would be to have a thconfig for each extended profile (but I think that is harder to manage over the longer term-too much duplication). Pretty sure the answer is "no", but... Can you do this in a thconfig: source "cave.th" source "extend1.th" where cave.th contains the cave survey data, and extend1.th contains the "extend" commands? I would imagine that to do it, you would need to re-enter the original survey, which is not permitted.

Multiple source files are fine. I have a project (more than one?) where I do this routinely. It is a nice way to toggle the scope of a compile up or down without having to dig into maps. I have not used it specifically for extended elevations, but there is no reason I can think of that would preclude this use. It might even be a great way of doing it. There is no reason you would need to re-enter survey data for this to work, and as you imply it would be extremely bad form to do so. Bruce
