Hello All, I'm using Therion for UW caves, where I enter survey data is this format : "data diving station depth left right up down ignore newline length bearing ignoreall" I'm trying to output a map, with the depth labels for some of the stations. Where and how can I do this. [my apologies if this is too simple a question - just direct me to the relevant page in the manual :)] Thanks in advance, Ricardo www.ENTRADA.tv
Do you plot only centerline or you have already a map consisting of some scraps? In the first case - I am afraid it will be a tricky issue to do it (but I believe not impossible). In the second case, just add "point altitude" to the place, where you want to mark altitude or (a way we use it), add "altitude ." to wall point options (just enter "altitude ." to the black box marked options in the line points toolbar in 2D editor. Please do not forget to add Z coordinate of the entrance as a grid Z origin in your layout. This will ensure that depths will be used instead of altitudes. HTH, S. Thanks for the quick reply. I'm using a "scrap" but only with station points and survey line - it appears that "altitute" is not a valid option for line of type survey. But I used the "point altitute", and it works just fine. Where do I add that Z coordinate ? :-) Thanks, Ricardo ----- Original Message ----- From: "Stacho Mudrak" <s.m@group-s.sk> To: <therion@speleo.sk> Sent: Wednesday, June 11, 2008 4:36 PM Subject: Re: [Therion] Depth labels

No, it is an option for point of line. "altitude ." to wall point options (just enter "altitude ." to the black box marked options in the line points toolbar in 2D editor m.
appears that "altitute" is not a valid option for line of type survey.
No it is not. It is just working for walls.
Where do I add that Z coordinate ? :-)
In your layout. Example layout x grid-origin 0 0 1230 m endlayout or directly in the export map command export map -layout-grid-origin 0 0 1230 m assuming entrance altitude is 1230 m. Regards, S.
Depth labels work nicely, thanks. I've been trying to use the point -dist and -from options to calculate the distance of a certain point from the entrance (penetration), but without success. Any ideas on how I can insert a label with the distance from a specific station. Ooops, this functionality does not work in therion yet. Options you mentioned are used for scrap morphing algorithm - usually, if you have well drawn notes, they are not used. To calculated distance - I assume you would like to have distance of a centerline path between two stations - needs to be implemented in therion. Nobody requested this feature before. I will put it in the TODO list. Regards, S. On Thu, Jun 12, 2008 at 11:04 AM, Ricardo Constantino <ricardo@entrada.tv> wrote:

Yes, that's what I was getting: morphing ! :)

Exactly.

I think it could be pretty useful feature. As far as I know WinCompass is able to calculate the shortest distance between two points. We need this kind of calculation very often - for example for optimal lenght of electric cable. L.

Yes, Here in Nelson, New Zealand I've been asked to include this information on maps, to assist with planning for cave search and rescue... for the lengths of our ground return michie phone cable. Bruce

How to say to therion that the two times longer way around is much faster and easier than the shortest one? :) m.

Then some possibility to specify one or more pass through points would be nice. It depands on what you need - the shortest/fastest way. I think that this is maybe feature request for Loch... Together with some other metering similar to Aven. L.

Yes, the user would need to specify ordered points along the way, with Therion finding the shortest route between the specified points. Not as simple as altitudes! Bruce
