Hello Debian wheezy. Therion 5.3.9 and 5.3.10 First some history. I was using 5.3.9, but last weekend I was running a course in Wales so needed the OSGB:SN which is added to 5.3.10. So to achieve this built 5.3.10 from source as 5.3.10 is not in wheezy due to the freeze. So when producing a pdf I get the Error 768, log attached, everything else I do seems to work as normal Wookey was there to help, so also tried installing 5.3.10 from .deb and then 5.3.9 from the .deb, both with the same error. Now in the error there is the bit that says ! Unable to make mpx file. l.2 btex \mainfont 0 etex The two files given above are one of your source files and an auxiliary file I need to read to find out what your btex..etex blocks mean. If you don't know why I had trouble, try running it manually through MPtoTeX, TeX, and DVItoMP played around with this, but really do not know what I am doing, but it might help me trace the problem. 5.3.10 worked on Wookeys Wheezy machine, so the w/e training could continue, at least. This was generated when running the thconfig file in http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/svn/CheddarCatchment/Reservoir/ Thanks Andrew

The erros seems to be that instead of getting (./mptextmp.mp) (./mptextmp.mp) (./mptextmp.mp) you get this: (./mptextmp.mp
mptextmp.mp mptextmp.mpx ! Unable to make mpx file. l.2 btex \mainfont 0 etex The two files given above are one of your source files and an auxiliary file I need to read to find out what your btex..etex blocks mean. If you don't know why I had trouble, try running it manually through MPtoTeX, TeX, and DVItoMP
So ./mptextmp.mp is falling over. I failed to work out from peering at the sources exactly what the metpost command therion issues is, and thus how to test it manually. I did notice whilst investigating that thmpost.cxx is nothing but a massive const char * string defintion of the whole metapost file, which seems pretty crufty. This is presumably the very old bring 'inline' of the tex and metpost stuff to avoid issue with Windows people having files missing/not found. I would like to understand how this stuff works, for debug and also for considering whether it is worth undoing so that the files can be placed more normally/correctly in the Debian packaging. The fix is to add the line bellow on the /etc/therion.ini : tex-fonts raw cmr10 cmti10 cmbx10 cmss10 cmssi10
And presumably also install texlive-lang-czechslovak ? Does it still break if that package is not installed? I've been working through this stuff after finding that making your config file change and removing the long-standing 80remove-czech-fonts-default.patch patch breaks the therion build (in the sample generation). And noticing that I documented these problems years ago in the Debian.README file. A longer mail about the sordid details here will follow. OK, so this issue here is that you get 'error 768' if you configure therion to use fonts that are not installed. Default upstream therion set up to use latin, czechslovak and cyrillic fonts, and needs them installed, even if only latin fonts/chars are actually used. As those two fonts are another 16MB I changed it a long time back to not install these by default, and added lines to /etc/therion.ini to easily enable them, along with an explanation about this in Debian.readme. And the two packages texlive-lang-czechslovak texlive-lang-cyrillic are in 'Suggests:' It would appear that Andrew had uncommented these lines but not actually installed the corresponding font packages. I'll modify the file to make clear in the comment that the lang packs need installing. The alternative would be to enable all the fonts by default and have the lang packs as hard dependencies. That would match upstream better, but I'm inclined to leave the Debian packaging as-is, unless someone can persuade me that it should be changed.
