Scaling all cross sections at once
Hi, Feeling like I must have missed something, but I can't see it in the book, nor on any email threads. Can you do something like this for point section: -scale 2 Or some layout option to make cross sections display at twice their natural scale? Obviously the scrap scale can be set to twice what it really is, but this means that the data itself needs to be falsified, instead of just the layout. (I await being told of something blindingly obvious that I have forgotten.) Cheers, Tarquin
Any cross- section scrap is -projection none ans as such it should be calibrated. If you calibrate it in scale 2 it will be 2 times larger. Martin Odesláno z iPhonu

OK, at least that means I didn't miss something obvious :) "Obviously the scrap scale can be set to twice what it really is, but this means that the data itself needs to be falsified, instead of just the layout." This also means it is not possible to have the same cross section scrap used in a partial map of part of the cave, with scale set as 1:1, and also used in the overall map of the entire cave with scale set as 2:1. It would have to be drawn twice to allow that, once with each scale factor set in the calibration. This is a bit limiting for our use-case. But OK, I can work with it, it's just a bit inconvenient.

I think that there might be a way to do this without falsifying the data. I wrote a rough and ready script to extract the names of cross sections from therion files and place the cross section point in a grid. That I manually arranged into sections as can be seen on the goughs survey (I would put in a link but it does not seem to be on the ubss site any more, I'll have to find somewhere else to put it.) But the script is still here https://bitbucket.org/AndrewA/therion-xsectionextractor/src/master/ It was written to do a job, there are no bells or whistles. If the cross section points are placed in a grid at half the scale of where they actually want to be and then a second survey is produced at twice the scale by hiding the right symbols in each file and placing the outputs on top of each other you would get the cross sections at twice the scale. You can probably even do the combination in therion, same as putting an elevation an plan together. No idea if this actually works and setting up to try would be a lot of work, but hopefully this thought experiment will give you a starting point to a solution Andrew

It is still there but no links to it any more https://www.ubss.org.uk/resources/surveys/survex/Goughs_combined.pdf But ore importantly the thought experiment I did last night works. If you use the data in http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/svn/CheddarCatchment/Goughs/ This config file demonstrates in principle that it works http://www.cave-registry.org.uk/svn/CheddarCatchment/Goughs/thconfig_Section... Things like back ground colours may be a problem, but using white should overcome this. To turn the walls, and other symbols, back on for the cross sections they will have to be given the context of the sections -context point section I did do this with one of the sections to check that it works, but didn't want to edit my cave data in the repository. OK, nice idea! I had considered manually creating the point sections in another scrap and map, outputting just that at a chosen scale, and then importing that into another map. But yes your script does that without all the manual labour. Either way you can't keep them in situ, but in-situ is clutter anyway, so I am not going to cry about that.
